Dragonball Z: Budokai 3
Kame..hame…haaaaaa! What? My attack couldn’t destroy this review?
Title: Dragonball Z: Budokai 3
Platform: Playstation 2
Why: Animated violence
My rating: 9/10 Almost Perfect
Dragonball Z budokai 3 is a game with the sole purpose of fighting. Dragonball Z Budokai 3 is the sequel to the hit games Dragonball Z: Budokai and Budokai 2. Budokai 3 was made to fill in the gaps that the early games failed to fill like offering some characters from the hit TV show and other problems like the early games just didn’t feel complete.
Dragonball Z Budokai 3 lets fans fight with new character techniques as well as the new way of unleashing death moves. In the T.V. series, the characters like Goku and Vegeta would fight the bad guys at super speeds that couldn’t be seen with the naked eye but with your inner ki. Budokai 1 & 2 failed to do this and tried to give their fans the regular type of fighting you would find in any street fighter title with slow punches and kicks that could only be seen in one view. Not that this was a bad thing but it just didn’t seem right for the game’s fighting to be much slower than what you saw on the show. That’s when budokai 3 steps in with its new method of fighting. In Budokai 3 you can knock out your opponent and send them flying in midair while you send an array of fire blasts to damage their corpse. If your opponent was able to catch your attack, you would fight in a feud in mid-air exchanging blows and finally (seeing that your opponent was able to return your blows) return to the ground on both feet ready to try destroy them some other way.
In Budokai 3, more characters have been added then previous games and some have mysteriously disappeared. Some of the added characters are villains recognized from Dragonball Z movies or from Dragonball GT. These characters were not available in previous because the movies did not come out yet or they did not fit in the games story mode. Some of these characters include Brolly, Cooler, Omega Shenron, Bardock and many others. Some unwanted characters have left like Zarbon and android 19..
Transformations and Techniques:
In Budokai 3, more transformations and signature moves have been added to some of the characters. Some of these include the famous Super Saiyan 4 for Vegeta and Goku, all of Frieza’s transformations, as well as Cooler with his final and metal forms. Some fans of the series have wanted these forms from the start like frieza’s 3 transformations. Another was Goku’s ability to transform Super Saiyan 4, but fans knew that they had to wait for this one since they knew this form wouldn’t fit in budokai 2 in the Majin Buu storyline or in the first budokai’s Cell storyline.
Some techniques were introduced like Goku’s Dragon Fist attack with the golden dragon or like Vegeta’s final shine attack form the GT series. (A similar attack to his galic gun technique) Budokai 3 has made great progress in the Dragonball Z series. This game felt like the creators took the time to make this a great game and not to rush it on market because they thought it would make a great seller. The first two games were pretty basic and okay, but they could have been better and as a result received such low ratings on gamespy and gamespot. If you haven’t played any budokai games and want to know which is worth the buy, I’d greatly recommend Dragonball Z: Budokai 3 for you to buy and try out.
