I keep getting the yellow shield in the tray to "click here to install updates". I click and install and later it comes back. This happens daily. How can I get it to stop?

Although I don't believe it's any security software interfering, can you do the following for me, just to get a better idea of what's running on your system

Download Hijackthis Installer from HERE
For an alternate download location, you can try HERE
SAVE it to your desktop
Double click on HJTInstall.exe to run it
Choose Install

Hijackthis v2.0.4 will open

Under Main Menu, Select
Do a system scan and save a Log file
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and Paste the Whole log back here to the forum

NOTE: As this is not the correct section of the forums for Hijackthis logs
If I find nothing wrong with it, I'm going to remove it

Sorry for the delay, did you purposely install Dealio toolbar, or did it get installed with some other software possibly?
Do you need it installed?

Can you do the following?
Please supply an uninstall list from Hijackthis
Open Hijackthis>>Open MISC TOOLS SECTION>>Open UNINSTALL MANAGER
Click the SAVE LIST... button
Save the list to your desktop then copy>>Paste back here the Whole contents

Then we'll deal with those Windows Updates if we can

Do you want to post your own HijackThis log?
Follow the instructions posted Here

That looks alright, but let's do the following

Download and save to desktop the 3 updates you were having a problem with
here's the links to all 3 updates, DO NOT install them yet, just simply save them to desktop

For update KB979909
Go to the following link
http://www.microsoft...en#Requirements
and then click on the Download button next to
NDP20SP2-KB979909-x86.exe
Save to desktop, don't install yet

For update KB982168
Go to the following link
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en
and then click on the Download button next to
NDP30SP2-KB982168-x86.exe
Save to desktop, don't install yet

For update KB974417
Go to the following link
http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en
and then click on the Download button next to
NDP20SP2-KB974417-x86.exe
Save to desktop, don't install yet

I assume your running a 32 bit operating system, so ensure you download the exact updates I posted to

Now, close down all browser windows
Access your Add/REmove programs and remove the following

Older copy of Sun Java>>Remove only Java™ 6 Update 5
In addition, if you didn't purposely install Viewpoint Media Player
Uninstall it also

Then, RESTART your computer into SAFE MODE
# If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
# Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
# Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
# Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
# Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Select your Normal account

Try installing the 3 updates in Safe mode, you were initially having a problem with

After installation, reboot back to Normal windows

Come back here, post a fresh Hijackthis log and let me know how things are now going

Do you want to post your own HijackThis log?

Is the icon still showing prompting for the same updates?. it could be that it has been resolved after another reboot?
