Tech Clinic / User Profile Problems
« on: February 19, 2002, 06:13:14 PM »
hello all...i\'m in a situation here and i hope you all can help me. a friend dropped off his computer and he wanted me to clean it up. i did the basic stuff and to save space i removed some old profiles that hadn\'t been used in a couple of months...or so i thought.

what this person did was make shortcuts to several documents in different profiles instead of storing all the documents in his current profile. is there a way to retrieve those profiles? anything????

Software / winxp crack

There is no way you can make an evaluation version of any software into the full retail version.  this guy must be on crack.  he probably removed the tag on the desktop saying he has an evaluation copy.  how can he change beta software by only changing four files?

what a crock of poo!!!

« on: December 30, 2001, 06:52:01 PM »
Why not pay 99 dollars for Windows XP Home?  Your compaq w2k cd is for your compaq...and nothing more.  Piracy is bad...

Hardware / network max speed
« on: December 07, 2001, 12:20:42 PM »
but he\'s sharing his cable modem which i assume is running tcp/ip so all those choices you gave him would not work. all 3 pc\'s need tcp/ip to share the internet connection....

netbeui can\'t be used...stick to tcp/ip and look into the transfer speed of your nic cards!!!!

Hardware / network max speed

actually installing more than one slows the network down because you have two protocols to deal with now instead of one. just stay with tcp/ip. also depends on the network cards you are using see if you have 10/100 type cards and see if they\'re sending at 100Mbps because 100Mbps should be more than plenty.

Tech Clinic / Upgr WinME w/W2K OEM
« on: December 04, 2001, 11:24:36 PM »
Windows ME was released after Windows 2000.  Microsoft doesn\'t suggest that you do an upgrade.  I\'ve yet to try and nor do I intend to.  I would do a clean install for the sake of stability.  Has anyone tried it?

Software / WinXp Activation Crack?
« on: December 02, 2001, 09:11:01 PM »
you talk about activation cracks in your subject but your body talks about registration.  so what is is that you don\'t want to do? you can activate windows and not register. activation is necessary...registration is not!!!! registration has never been necessary to run a microsoft operating system.

Tech Clinic / MSN Messenger 4.5 UGH!
« on: December 01, 2001, 07:39:21 PM »
I have DSL and whenever I\'m logged on to AOL and I try to use Internet Explorer it tells me that I\'m offline.  I have to click \"Try Again\" for Internet Explorer to work.

Do  you have AOL 7.0?

« on: December 01, 2001, 12:57:30 PM »
It\'s obvious that MSNM 4.5 was not the cause of your problem because even after you\'ve uninstalled it the problem still persists.  Are you on dial-up, broadband?  Are you using AOL 7.0? More information on your setup would be nice!!!!
