Hardware / MY HD RIP :(
« on: December 26, 2001, 06:15:56 PM »
Yup I thought it will never happen...yesterday at Win2K I tested the DirectX diag, becouse the games (microsoft combat flight smulator) didn\'t see the D3D, (Gf2mx400 21.81 drivers for Win2k/XP).
Well at the moment I was testing the D3D the system freezed at a white screen, so I did a hard reset, damn it never booted again.
Ok I saied is the dual booter I\'ll set in a moment, ha, no Fdisk, no Mbr no sys c: from the boot floppy(reported error reading the hd), so I tried a restore from Win2k Cd, nada, so I used the Western Digital Disk manager, and it told that the bios couldn\'t handle the HD and installed Ezbios go figure!, tried to reinstall Win and it said there weren\'t partitions or they were NT/HPFS, at that point I did a Low Level Format, and went to buy a new HD (with whom I\'m now), after six hours the LL end, but the results were the same.
I think the fault is becouse I had the bios in PNP OS YES, and MS advices not to do that, that \"hardware info may be written...\" or something like that.
Any idea how to recover the HD?????(Western Digital 30GB 5.400rpm)
Thanks guys

Software / Better later than never!
« on: December 04, 2001, 06:21:28 PM »
Yup guys ten days that I\'m using win2k, crashed the dual boot (win98/Win2k) twice the second day I installed it, but rebuilded in a snap, I\'m spending all my time with win2k, took off all the extra features so that it looks as much possible as the \"classic\" windows, didn\'t load games yet, just lurked in it and surfed and chatted, I\'m liking it more each moment I spend with it, thanks JT http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Hardware / I\'m on a Gig
« on: September 01, 2001, 08:03:33 PM »
Yeah I got a P3 Slot 1 1Gig 100MHZ and dropped on a Soyo 6vba+133 (didn\'t found a BX) with 384 Megs Ram running at 133 CAS 2 with a Pine Geforce2 MX400, hooked to the same cablemodem as the other comp.
Thanks to Intel an his fixed multiplier it runs at its default speed even if the mobo hasn\'t that multiplier in the bios.
Now I have to make the comps to see each other trough the hub to have everything finished and after that start thinking on the next jump ...

Idle Chat / This month cable was free
« on: December 04, 2000, 08:49:09 PM »
My Cable ISP was running very bad on the last days of october and first week of november, so I sent an email to the CEO complaining hard, with pics of downloads of different sites, treatening him that I would change to DSL, know what? the bill arrived for the amount of 0.01$, yes 1 cent, I saved 84.99$ LOL http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Software / Installed DirectX8
« on: November 22, 2000, 10:33:26 PM »
I installed Direct X 8, and did not noticed changes in Q3 speed (opengl so didn\'t expected them) but seems to have improved the graphics quality, where I noticed a big improvement in speed was in a direct 3d game as MS Combat Flight Simulator.

How did they performed for you?

Site Feedback / Members roaster
« on: August 06, 2000, 08:45:17 AM »
Now there are 29 registered members, should be fine to have the roaster, and maybe access from there to the profiles too, it will help to know each other and to send posts, maybe can be done automatically so that when a new member registers he is added to the list.
Sorry Josetann, I know I\'m adding work to you...http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Hardware / Changed V.card
« on: July 30, 2000, 06:05:14 PM »
I take off my 2Voodoo2Sli and the Agp Monster Fusion and replaced by a Voodoo3000 (yep I know is old stuff) results on my PIII 550e FPS went from 46 to 67/69 FPS in Q3, and can have the graphics full accelerated and IE 5.01 SP1 doesn\'t freeze more, with the old stuff I have to have the acceleration issue two tabs on the left wich means that the main card (The Monster) had no graphics 2d/3d acceleration.
The CPU temp drop from 33C to 29C, less heat in the case...
Ok all this is for share you never know when a friend of yours can have a similar problem...
I still love my Voodoos2....

Hardware / New Cable Modem.
« on: July 17, 2000, 10:40:25 PM »
My cable ISP replaced the Com21 modem by a Surfboard 3001i (and also made changes in his servers), well here the good news: can download from a local FTP at 450/550 KBytes/second means 3600/4400 Kbites/second, and from outisde the country I got a place at Florida that let me downloaded mIRC at 150 KBytes/second = 1200 kbites/second, the bad news are that from other sites the speed sucks and went down to 6 Kbytes/second, and that now my IP is not more fixed, is reassigned every time by the server, I was used to the old one...
They told me they are working in the international connection to improve it an make more stable, just seat and wait...
