Title: Unformated Formated HardDrive
Post by: HarDlyCOnfUseD on January 07, 2004, 07:26:20 PM
I was transferring files (about 30 gygz) from one HD in XP home to another HD when the receiving HD stopped accepting the transfer. The error message was that it could not read the files being transferred. I restarted and hoped the problem was fixed. I tried to then open the HD and it said that the HD was unformatted and if I wanted to format it.
The receiving HD is a western Digital 160gyg and i have both (the other a western Digital 120gyg) HD on an ATA card.
Thx in advance

So i guess my question is how do i recover the data? I would hate to think of the idea of those countless days of DL going to waste.

/mad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> I spoke with one of WD technicians. The hardrive was unstable due to the shipping process. Instructed me to write zeros to the harddrive b4 installing an OS...Wish they would have told me in advance rathher then found out the hard way. By the way... this happened with another new HD aswell that had Win98 yet they have failed to adress the problem in the instructions or anywhere else...they are inexpensive HD at about 50 cents a gyg so iguess i have to live with it. Hopefully this banter helps others.
