Title: NO CD-Rom in WIN98SE

I installed a couple of updates from Microsoft 98SE update installer and now I lost my CD-Rom and Writer. My computer identifies them both in the bios, but when the computer boots into windows I have no cd or burner. I'm Totally fustrated, I've tried everything can anyone help please??????
