Title: Just cool it
Post by: AndreL on February 10, 2004, 01:02:38 AM
I'm gathering some inforation about heat sinks and cooling fans. And I'm looking for some information on how to choose one. I'm going to get a AMP MP 2.4 GH chip but I confuse on the features of all the heatsink technology out there on the maket.

The cooling fan speed: how fast should it be and what is the sale of how much it cool in repect to how many RPM's it goes.

And what is  Air Flow and Therm. Resistance. how is that used in jugding what cooling fan to get.

May be this is more easyer to understand.

AMD 1 GH
AMD 1.5 GH
AMD 2 GH
AMD 2.5 GH
AMD 3 GH
AMD 3.5 GH

What fan cooling fan feature should be meat as in how many RPM should the fan go, what should the air flow and Thermal Resistance be how big sould the heat sink be how much power should it consume for these feature to be meet.

Cool

Go with ThermaleRight. They make all copper coolers and are great quality. I have a SLK-700  with the 74mm TMD fan which is 36cfm on my Athlon T-BIRD 1.4 @ 1.6 and I'm very happy with it. You can choose from the 700, slk-800, slk900, slk-947U, or the SP-97. A medium powered 80mm fan is about 32-36cfm and high would be about 40-50 and ultra 50cfm++. Or you could use a 90mm.  /rolleyes.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
