I am trying to do a complete defrag of my win 2000 drives. The problem is when the defrag is finished, about 40% of the drive is 'locked files' and can't be defragged.
I'm using O&O pro v.4 as the default utility. I have tried logged in as the administrator, but it still won't touch them. I have browsed the admin tools and really can't find anywhere to unlock these files.
Am I missing something?
Most of the locked files are non-system, a few are.
Anybody got any ideas???

hey there...
i'm not sure, but i think you might need to set it to do a boot time defrag because that's the only time that the system hasn't acquired locks on the files yet. i know diskeeper (another defrag util) can do this but i don't know if yours can as well.
hope this helps...

Well, the program does the boot up defrag. I;m not sure if I checked the option or if it is by default. Everytime at boot, there are a few files that defrag-or it reports that they have been defragged.
I sent a support request to Microsoft asking the techs about my question, we'll see.
BTW,
I have reset all the securities on the properties for each file that is locked and a couple of them unlocked....???
Thanx anyway.
