Title: How 2 CHANGE Files loaded @ XP Setup ?
Post by: user1 on April 22, 2004, 11:38:09 AM
Without going into details, I am installing Windows XPSP1 as a clean install. The WCD is and OEM version. I found what I would call an errror in the TXSETUP.SIF file that would load an incorrect .dll file for the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer). So, I edited it to refer to the proper file.

When XP begins the setup process, it copies essential files into a temporary folder on the system drive. The folder is labled $win_nt$.~bt. The one file not included in this directory is my .dll file I edited in on TXSETUP.sif. Obviously, there is another or other files that also control what XP files get installed in the temporary file referenced above. Anyone got any ideas where I can look further.

The reasons for the agony is this. the HAL is the first thing loaded and installed by XP. It sets much of the choices the OS makes as it progresses thru the installation. Once set it is very hard or impossible to change. (At least for me) I raised the issue on the MS TEchNet Newsgroup and no one touched it. It was as if I was asking the MS MVPs for the keys to the kingdom. Anyway, maybe someone here knows. Thank you.

someone can explain the file or files used to inform XP setup which files to load in the directory I would call the setup folder which is temporarily created on the partition where the OS will be installed. Obviously You can't, but some one can.

Good try though  /dry.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'<_<\' />
