Title: CdRom Drive not working&Not seen in "My Computer"

Ok One  day outta the blue I get out of stand-by mode by moving my mouse, now I didn't notice it at first but when I go to put a Cd-Rom in my Cd  Rom drive I notice the light is blinking....while there is no ready/green light on my CD-RW Now I restart and this problem is solved, but it happened again and again untill restarting didnt do a damn thing....so now I got a DVD drive with a blinking light that won't eject to put in a CD and a CD-RW that has no green light....neither read discs or show up in My Computer...need some help on this one, thanks in advance---Demi

Pentium II 400 Mhz
Windows 98 Second Edition
256 Mb of Ram
10Gig HDD


Yea its a relic 6 yrs old...

Hi Demi

You might try to change the battery on the mother board. Sometimes this little trick does wonders for old PC's. At other times it does bugger all, but it's relatively cheap.
If this doesn't help it may be time to follow the previous advice on this page, since it might be a faulty controller on the mother board.

it sounds like you might have a problem with your drivers, and if its a relatively old computer it could happen. Actually, the same thing happened to my other computer a year ago before i put win 2k on it... anyways, try reinstalling them by going to your control panel and opening System (i think, im not absolutely sure in 98) and then click device manager. find your cd-rom dive, click properties and click on the driver tab. click on update or reinstall drivers and just have it search for one on your computer. Install it and see if that helps. g/l!
