Title: Adding RAMBUS RAM to Dimension 8100
Post by: Cooper on April 28, 2004, 08:13:59 PM
I added 256MB of RAMBUS non-ecc RAM to an existing 128MB non-ecc RAM.  The system resources stayed the same even though I added 2/3 rds more memory.  I had 81% free, after a fresh dick defrag run, before I added the new ram, and that number did not change after adding 256MB more.
I have a Dell Dimension 8100 running at 1.3 GHZ.  The system resource page states that I have 384 MB of ram but I am still having the same problems of low memory that I had before the addition.

Is there something more I need to do other than plug in the two 128 MB RAMBUS chip sets into there slots and lock them in place?
I moved the two old 64 MB RAM chips back so that the new memory was in the front.

I would think that 81% of 384meg ram is a far bit larger than 81% of 64meg.
