Title: Windows XP home networking

I have 2 computers in my house in different rooms but in the same floor and they both running Windows XP.
The computers are working on ethernet and they have an ADSL connection. They connect into the internet using a netwrk hub. The first computer can see the other one and share files and the other one can also see the first computer but it says that it is not accessible.(they both running Norton).
 What problems can make that and how to solve it.

Norton what? Antivirus, Personal Firewall, Internet Security? Which version 2002, 2003, 2004?

If it's Personal Firewall or Internet Security open it up and click on Personal Firewall, then click the Configure button in the bottom right hand corner. Click on the Home Networking tab and then click the Wizard button. Follow the instructions. Do this on both just to be sure.

The first one works on Norton Antivirus 2004 Professional and the other one works on Norton Antivirus 2003 Professional.

OK.... Start button, Control Panel, Network Connections. Run the Network Connection Wizard on both machines (read the questions carefully and answer appropriately).

I did it very carefully but still it didn't help.
It's very strange because in the home network of those 2 computers:
the first computer can see the other one and share files and when i want to view the first computer from the other one, it sends an error message  that  the computer is not accessable.
Perhaps it's because the Norton in the first computer doesn't allow to other computers on the home network to get access to it but I don't realy think that this is the problem.
Please help.

look up up 'file and print sharing xp' in google ....

It seems that a computer with Norton Internet Security 2004 Firewall enabled will block all direct connections from home network computers. It doesn't help  
 either to place your other computers in your network to 'trusted zone' in firewall settings.

Found out that network sharing is working so my host (network sharing
 computer)  can share the network connection.  Only limitation seems to be
 pinging host or file or printer sharing with host. Host can connect and share files with clients but clients cannot connect to host unless for internet use (internet connection sharing).

Make sure you have the IPX protocol installed on both pc's.

Had similar problem. The solution was to switch off the build in windows firewall. In the win manuals it says that there my be probs with sharing if the fwall is on. Go to your local area conection properties. Advanced tab and clear the win fwall.
