Title: HIJACKED!! Keeps getting worse!
Post by: Dana on June 02, 2004, 12:27:54 PM
I can't seem to get rid of this thing & my computer's all screwed up!  Can't even access some Internet & I'm PLEADING for help as I don't know what the heck I'm doing!!!  Was able to download AdAware and Hijack This yesterday, now I seem to have lost the Hijack this download.  My AntiVirus software finds a compressed cax.dll file "ADWARE.CAX" in my c drive Temp. int. files, but can't seem to delete it itself.  Followed the Symantec protocol to manually delete it but not working!  My homepage is hijacked to "EasySearch" which I can't seem to get rid of and I keep getting a web page that pops up from "Casino Palazzo" like every 10 minutes or so.  Plus I then get a blank page that keeps popping up and have to go to my Task Manager to close them---2 pages--one that's a "Connector Object" and the other that reads "C:\windows\dl.html"  WHAT'S GOING ON HERE and can ANYONE HELP ME???  I'm desperate!!!!!

Because your system is comprimised, I'd recommend 1st attempting to do a complete virus scan with Housecall (http://\"http://housecall.antivirus.com\").  This will give you a good scan and repair, because it is not infected.

Once you have completed this, then and only then I would download a completely new copy of Highjack This and use it.  I would also recommend reinstalling your anti-virus software from the CD's, and getting a firewall such as ZoneAlarm Pro.

If the above fails, then you could always backup what's important to you (remember to virus scan it later before using it) and then reformat your harddrive and reinstall Windows from the beginning.

If you choose to do that, then I'd recommend immediately updating it from the MS site, then installing a firewall and anti-virus software to secure it.  Do not go anywhere on the Internet or use any old software until scanned and secured.
