Hello,
I am new here, and I have never had to post to a forum before. 2 days ago my Windows media player stopped working. It was WMPlayer 9 running on windows 2000. I could not get it to run, so I uninstalled it from the add/remove programs and downloaded it from Microsoft and reinstalled it. I did not know I had the casinopalazzo thing at the time. The windows media player then ran fine, but I noticed that there was the casino icon on the desktop and also when I started IE another window opened and went to the casino's website. That, and I get a message window that mimics windows file protection that says I have spyware and would I like to fix it (to which I click no).
I have read through some forums and tried most of the things I found, which work for a few hours and then it resurfaces. I have run ad aware and spybot which have found nothing.
Also, the websites for Hijack this and CWShredder are not responding. Even when I try to go through download.com. I thought my computer was blocking the sites, but I tried from work also.
So I really do not know what other info to post here since I cannot run Hijack this and show the log?!
Can anyone help??????????? Thanks!
Chris

I am running Win2000Pro and got the casino bug along with a popup telling me I have spyware on my computer that came about every 10 minutes. The bug killed my Window Media Player 9. While looking on my hard drive for the bug I found a program running named taskmgn.exe (not taskmgr.exe) in my C:\Winnt\System32 folder. I deleted it (hope I didn't do a bad, bad thing) and have not had any more pop ups or casino shortcuts appearing on my desktop. I uninstalled Media 9 and redownloaded it. Seems everything is okay for the last 24 hours.
