Title: Format a DVD-RW

hi i have just bought a DVD-RW disk, and the guy in the shop said i need to format it  before i do anything, he asked me what sort of burner i had? its a pioneer A07, he said i could format it with nero but all i can find on nero is erase disk??? i have tryed that and it wont let me do it, but  surely that is because there`s nothing on the disk, i guess erase disk is purely to remove data and nothing to do with formatting, i have

Burned a few DVD's and am not aware of having to format the disc. Unless the program i use automatically does it.

I'm just getting into dvd burning myself. I am aware you have to format RW discs for at least some uses but maybe not for all. This is all i know so far.....
