I have an IBM Thinkpad T40 laptop and have a problem with the USB ports.
Up until about a week ago I had no problems, both my DVD writer and Memory card reader worked at USB 2.0 speed, with no warning messages.
Then some windows updates were installed and I occassionally got a pop-up message saying that I had plugged a "Hi-Speed device into a low-speed port...".
Since then the pop-up has become more and more frequent and now happens nearly every time.
Sometimes it will take a couple of minutes to decide this and if I set a DVD recording before it gives me this message then it will happen at full speed with no problems. However, a few minutes after it has finished then Windows will finally figure it out and slow the port down.
When I click on the warning message bubble it tells me that there are high speed USB ports installed and that I should remove the device and plug it into one of the high speed ports, which it highlights in bold.
I only have two ports, although it shows 4 in device manager, and both ports are suffering from this problem.
I get this message with both the DVD recorder and the Card reader, so I assume it's not the devices themselves.
I find this really confusing, does anyone have any ideas of what I can do?
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks.

I have the exact same problem. Haven't found a solution. I'll post one if I do. Please let me know if you figure anything out.

I had the same problem some time back.
Then i loaded the s/w for my new digi-cam and hey presto they msg dissappeared. Try loadingsome s/w which uses the hi=speeed USB 2.0.
Hope this works

Hi again. I began having other general hardware problems, so had the motherboard replaced. That fixed my USB problem as well (the USB components are on the motherboard, I think). Drastic perhaps to do this just for the USB problem, but it did tell me the USB problem was in the hardware. I have a T40. Good luck!
