It decided to crash on me, and continually attempt to restart...after letting it do this a million times, i finally managed to make out the words on the half second blue screen....the "registry file failure" error. being a little computer literate, i tried to fix it myself...bad idea. i managed to get into the recovery console, and started following the steps outlined at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545/en-us (http://\"http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545/en-us\") . keep in mind, it says that this doesn't work with oem installations, but will work otherwise.well, boys and girls, looks like microsoft is wrong again...mine isn't oem, and now it's without a password. well, that's not true, there must be one, but it isn't one that i have.
keep in mind, this computer is supposedly fully updated with all the service packs.
now i have a laptop with lots of expensive software and files, that i can't get into. HELP!?!? Not enough room to install 2000 and try to work around it....and not quite experienced enough to start playing around with it. i'll probably accidentally destroy everything if i start poking around in there more and trying strange programs that i'm not familiar with.....any ideas? thanks in advance folks, i hope someone has an answer that'll work!!

Can you access Windows in safe mode?
Try logging on as Administator in safe mode
You could also try these default passwords and see it they work
admin
Administrator
Owner
