Hello, thank you for your time. Anyway, I accepted and downloaded funny.exe yesterday through MSN. I didn't know what it was back then so I openned it. Now when I start up my computer (my other computer) it freezes at startup, meaning I see the background, I hear the startup music but nothing shows. When I'm in safe mode this popup says "psapi.dll is not found", and it freezes completey (i can't even move the mouse). is there any way which I could fix this without losing the files on my computer? Thank you so much.
-
Hi Minyan
Download Hijackthis 1.98.2
Important: Create a Permanent folder for Hijackthis
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT
Now you will have C:\HJT
Download Hijackthis from HERE (http://\"https://ssl.perfora.net/tools.radiosplace.com/HijackThis.exe\") or HERE (http://\"http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe\")
Save it to that new folder
Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important
-
Hi, thanks for the help. I've downloaded hijackthis and created a folder for it. However, I cannot do anything on that computer because the computer becomes idle as soon as I turn it on, even in safe mode, therefore I can't scan it either. However I do have a LAN so I could still access/modify the files on that computer through another computer. What should I do? Thanks again for your time.
-
Try this first in safe mode to remove the virus
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...w32.funner.html (http://\"http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.funner.html\")
Let me know how you make out
At what point in safe mode does everything freeze up, what program are you trying to run
Can you view anything that your not familiar with in your Task Manager?
-
It freezes up right when I the computer turns on, so even before everything is loaded at the startup the computer gets idle, same with safe mode (except in safe mode the cursor can't even move). The only thing I see on the screen is the background and nothing else. I do see Iexplore in the task manager but before it was infected it's not there.
-
I got the same problem - is there a solution to this ?
The task list show the files: hidserve and avgserv9
-
avgserv9 i srelated to AVG anti-virus
Try ending process on anything you don't recognize
Except for these,
lsass.exe
instances of svchost.exe
taskmgr.exe
csrss.exe
smss.exe
alg.exe
winlogon.exe
explorer.exe
service.exe
If you can post a hijackthis log before ending process on anything
-
What you need to do minyan and guest who can't get on either is to start up in MSDOS mode-by tapping f8 on booting up-and then type intot he command prompt:
c:\scanreg
then go to start when it pops up and then <view registry something> (sorry can't remember that bit but it's something like that) and then select a date at which it was last working and then it should restart and boot up normally.
Once in then you can download hijackthis and so on and you should have a fully working computer again!
Any other problems or questions about this then please e-mail me @
studio8@Email Removed.co.uk

i have decided to just format, start of clean and that will fix the problem and also make my computer run better.. thanks anyway
-
I was just about to post a fix, I spotted your problems in your log
/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
That's one way to fix it guest 2 with same problem
May I suggest a couple things, before you do anything go and Install Windows Update Service Pack 2
This will help to keep your system secure
Make sure you also check for latest driver and third party software updates
IF you do re-install Messenger Plus 3
Do so without choosing the SPONSOR
Your were infected with Spyware called LOP that comes with the Sponsor
To keep your system secure
You should install these 2 apps., they add extra security while
silently protecting you, without running in the background
SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\")
IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial (http://\"http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=53\")
Download link==Download link (http://\"https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm#IESPYAD\")
Scroll down and click on IE-SPYAD.EXE Free!
With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
IE-Spyad works fine with SP2
Thanks for posting back and letting us know you figured out your problems

-
Can you get on your computer in safe mode?
Try tapping the F8 key when the system is starting up
If you can get into safe mode and access files and registry on your computer
Then this should be no problem removing

Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad) hit Enter
Copy the contents of the Quote box to notepad
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as zesoft.reg
Save this file on the desktop
This will help clean zesoft from your registry
REGEDIT4

Hi there, I was reading all of the comments of you carefully:
I got the same Problem with an Windows 98 Plus PC, start the PC, then just got the background, no desktop symbols, no toolbar, etc.
System is infected with funny.exe Virus.
if I start the PC in safe mode, message: file p....dll is missing.
I tried command prompt: c:\scanreg and restore the *.cab file from a date when it worked properly. Didn't help, still the same problem.
What to do now? some next steps, ideas?
-
So..
Now i've done all u said...
And i'm really glad that ur helping...
Damn the "Windows Cleaner" deleted a lot!
After deleting all the other viruses (when we did same time as the funny), my computer has become as fast as when i bought it...
So many, manythanks to you m8!

Many thanks m8!
Take care..

Hey - it's me again...
Nothing to worry about this time...
It's just after all this, non Active-X things is working on the homepages... Allmost every homepage, cannot show the Active-X thing, and then i can't do what i'm suppos to... What do i do, so i again can see the different things?
Thanks again m8!
-
Can you give me a link to one of these sites
Did you install SpywareBlaster and/or IE-Spyad?
Just for test purposes can you go to
Housecall's Online AV
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ (http://\"http://housecall.trendmicro.com/\")
Choose your area and see if the ActiveX and definitions will load
You can even run an online virus scan if you would like
/tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />
I'm actually asking you to try to go to Housecall's because if there ActiveX will load
I would say that the other sites your trying to access, trying to load the activex component may be bad sites
I'm not sure
We might have to adjust your Security settings in IE's Internet options
-
I woulcn't download it...
It have locked for all...
Also the sites, where i write with other people in guestbooks etc..
I have installed them both...
But IE-Spyad ain't in the start menu?
-
I'm really not sure what exactly your saying, this is an active x issue, right?
Access your Internet options via Control Panel
Under Security>>Custom Level
Make sure that these are set
Download signed ActiveX controls (Prompt)
o Download unsigned ActiveX controls (Disable)
o Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe (Disable)
o Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins (Enabled)
o Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting (Prompt)
By the way, from the Tutorial for IE-Spyad it only adds reg. entries to your
Registry
Nothing to run in the background
By default when IE-Spyad is installed it will install to C:\IE-Spyad
Navigate to that folder, this is where you unzip any updates too
Remember to Uninstall and Install after every update
That link to the Tutorial is quite good in explaining the procedure
-
That was better - thx m8!
-
I've deleted IE-SPYAD...
/wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />
-
Very sorry to hear you deleted IE-Spyad
If you use Internet explorer it's a great silent spyware blocker
That is up to you
Ensure at minimum you have Spyware Blaster installed and updated
And enable all protection
Thanx for posting back
-
Hey, I did what you said to the guy earlier, I deleted a lot of them with the same IP address, but I just want to know what else I have to delete, if you could tell me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

hi there
I had the same problem(I can't see desktop icons and startupmenu at start up) some days ago. There is a process named mxz.exe which is the main part of the funny.exe virus. After many trial the following steps helped me to start my pc again.
-Restart the pc in safe mode
-You will see the funny.exe file creates many files with a long name and with extension .exe and .dll. in different folders. What i did is I searched all the files and deleted from the different folders.
The virus uses long digits to file names. each number has two file names with dll and exe extensions. for example 225586499866.dll and 36754688888.exe . And another files are created with the following file format "dll_22596136876.dll"
What you have to do is delete the files from the following folders
* before deleting the files make sure that ur windows explorer is configured to show all the files.( windows explorer-tools-folder options-view tab-select show hidden files and folders)
* While deleting the files, make shure you haven't selected other system files, this may create another problem
* While deleting, dont send them to recycle bin, directly delete them(shift+delete)
here are the list of folders
c:\documents and settings\username\desktop (use this path rather than directly using desktop)
c:\windows or c:\winnt
c:\windows\system
c:\windows\system32
c:\windows\msagent
c:\windows\inf
c:\windows\java
c:\windows\shellnew
c:\windows\temp
c:\documents and settings\user\localsetting\temp
also delete the following files from windows folder
mxz.exe
fun.exe
use windows search system to find funny.exe file and delete it.
If there is a folder which the files are not deleted, the system will again create all the files in the different folders. THEREFORE make shore that you have deleted all the files befor restarting.
if you have the same problem after restart, all the files are not deleted. So revise all the folders.
try the above method and tell me the result please
Good luck
