I have the worst problems with every type of offeroptimizer. Can someone pleasepleasepleaseplease look at this & tell me what is safe to delete?
Sorry if this is like violating some sort of forum netiquette but I have to go to this extreme because I cannot figure it out myself.

I need you to save Hijackthis to a permanent folder, anything removed with Hijackthis will make backups
When we clear your temporary files your backups will be lost
First
Important: Create a Permanent folder for Hijackthis
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT
Now you will have C:\HJT
Download Hijackthis from HERE (http://\"https://ssl.perfora.net/tools.radiosplace.com/HijackThis.exe\") or HERE (http://\"http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe\")
Save it to that new folder
Next: Access your Add/Remove Programs and remove if found
WebSearch Toolbar
WebSearch Tools
Search Assistant
Win-Tools Easy Installer
# Do not reboot until they have all been removed even if prompted.
# When you are uninstalling the last program you can then reboot when prompted.
When your back in Windows
Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05 (http://\"http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/\")
Ensure you have this version
If you don't have this verision, install this one
After installation-CHECK FOR UPDATES
Allow to download updates
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button
====================================================
RESTART your computer
When you back in Windows
Download and Install Spybot S&D 1.3 (http://\"http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html\")
After installation--SEARCH FOR UPDATES
Download All updates
Check for Problems---FIX everything in RED
Restart your computer one more time
Could you also Download this small download called VX2 Finder (http://\"http://downloads.subratam.org/VX2Finder(126).exe\")
open it and "Click to find VX2.BetterInternet"
Then press "Make log"
Copy and paste that log back here along with a fresh Hijackthis log

Good Work Klaus
How's everything running?
If everything is better, this would be a good time to Disable System Restore and clean out all your Restore points
Don't need to restore any Nasties
1. Right click the My Computer icon on the Desktop and click on Properties.
2. Click on the System Restore tab.
3. Put a check mark next to 'Turn off System Restore on All Drives'.
4. Click the 'OK' button.
5. You will be prompted to restart the computer. Click Yes. Or Reboot anyways
Note: To re-enable the Restore Utility, follow steps one to five and on step three remove the check mark next to 'Turn off System Restore on All Drives'.
Just checking
This program CDEject
Seems to be related to this
The program allows you to ban manual control of your CD-ROM, and then control it by mouse or hot key, so if you have small children, you can protect their fingers from the CD-ROM and the CD-ROM from their fingers!
Does that look right to you?
Remember to Install spywareblaster
-
My computer is now working wonderfully & very very smoothly. I love you. I also downloaded Firefox just a little while ago & am now using it instead of IE per suggestion from one of my friends. I like it quite a bit & it works much more efficientally as well--this was a good choice, yes?
& yes, CDEject is on my system because the button to manually open the CD drive was pushed in too far by Goddess knows what & it snapped.
-
Oh, & I've had my system restore off for a while. I never thought to enable it again after a previous battle with spyware a while ago.
If I enable it now, nothing will screw up, will it?
-
Nope, you can keep System Restore enabled now, as you seem to be all clear.
Firefox is definitely a good choice, I wouldn't be without it
Remember to Middle click on links and check out the Tabs feature
If you don't want tabs to open in the background you can change that in the Tools>>Options section
Stay safe

Thanks for your help.
I have another question but this one doesn't have anything to do with adware/spyware & other such things. I hope it is okay to ask it, but if it isn't feel free to shoo the question away.
I just got an Epson printer/scanner/fax a few weeks back, and when I try to install it, an error message comes up with the following:
Title: 16 Bit Windows System
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The System file is not suitable for running MS-Dos and Miscrosoft Windows applications.
What's going on?
-
Hang on for a bit Klaus, seen that error many times
I'll try and link you to a fix
brb
Try a manual fix and then we can try an Automatic fix
Navigate to this folder
C:\WINNT\Repair
Open the folder and look for AUTOEXEC.NT
It should be 2K in size
Highlight it and then Right click on it and choose Copy from the menu bar
Paste it to your
C:\WINNT\System32 folder
Restart your computer and try again
Let me know how you make out
-
Success!
Thank you so much. I really may owe my life to you. <3
-
Good to hear, thanks for letting me know
Take Care Klaus

My computer has Windows 2000 and startup takes an incredibly long time. Also, although my IE browser has popup blockers that are enabled, I continue to get a lot of popups. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.
