Title: Seeking some advice - Seagate 40GB Ultra IDE Probl
Post by: Matt Taylor on December 18, 2004, 11:24:02 PM
Hi,

I bought this HD in north america to use in a usb/firewire portable case.

Shortly after returning to UK, the drive failed to display in My Computer. I tried changing all the jumper settings, tried installing the drive in a working computer with an ide cable with various jumper settings and still can not see the damn thing on my computer.

It is however recoignised by the auto ide test in the bios, and in system, device manager.

Can anyone advise on potential fault, or on how I may go about recovering data from the drive, I don't want to lose my holiday pictures!

Thanks

Matt.  /ph34r.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

I take it that you tried Seagates site
http://www.seagate.com/support/npf/index.html (http://\"http://www.seagate.com/support/npf/index.html\")

Did you also download and try the Diagnostic Drive utility?
