Title: Unable to resolve hostnames in the hosts file

I am using a PC having Windows XP SP1 and facing a weird problem. My machine has stopped resolving names present in the "hosts" file. Name resolution is happeningh through the WINS and DNS, but I have a few names that need to be resolved through the hosts file itself. Any hints on what may be the reason and how that be resolved.
