Title: wscgetproviderpath failed

My brother's computer is windows 98, he can connect to earthlink but cannot view web pages. Everytime he tries he gets this message.....
WSCgetproviderpath failed returning WSAEPROVIDER failedinit

Can you access the Internet at all?

This line may indicate problems with your Pop up blocker

It may be best if you first update Hijackthis and post a fresh log
The latest version is 1.99

Also try shutting down the Popup blocker

Let's see a fresh log afterwards

You can also try download LSP FIX to try to restore your winsock settings
Simply open the program and click FINISH and restart your computer

Best to post a fresh log first however

I have a similar message with earthlink DSL, WSCGetproviderPath failed, returning WSAEproviderfailedinit.

The people at earthlink had me restore windows me and this message still pops up on the startup and cause IE to fail.

I am running a Sony vaio pcv-rx360ds with a realtek ethernet card trying to connect to DSL, how do I recover the system to a point that it is functional, earthlink people can't seem to get me to that point.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you post a hijackthis log to ensure it's not malware related
Also, have you remove any spyware or malware from your computer lately?

Open Hijackthis.exe

Do a "SCAN and Save a Log file"
A log will open in Notepad
Copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important
