Let's take a closer look Ed
I have some better anti-spyware tools than Yahoo if you want them

Can you Download Hijackthis 1.99
A small utility to help identify if any Hijackers, Malware, Spyware, etc.....Reside on your computer

Important: Create a Permanent folder for Hijackthis
Double Click "MY Computer"
Open your C: drive
Click "File" >>> "New" >>>> "Folder"
A new folder will be created, name it HJT

Now you will have C:\HJT

Download Hijackthis from CLICK HERE (http://\"https://ssl.perfora.net/tools.radiosplace.com/HijackThis.exe\") or CLICK HERE (http://\"http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe\")
Save it to that new folder

Do a SCAN and Save a Log file---Save the log----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important

Ok.   I made a folder called HJT.  I downloaded Hijackthis and put it in the HJT folder.  I did a scan and save a log file.  The log file went to HJT folder but for some strage reason it has like a windows media player symbol inside of it.

Note i am currently running windows 98 se edition.  If u can plz help me get rid of this file containing windows media player symbol plz help.

Do me a favor, the next time you do a scan
and the log pops up, Copy and paste the contents of the log back here before you close it out
Is that possible?

If not you may have CoolWeb infection

Look in your C:\WINDOWS folder  for Notepad.exe
Does it exist?

No it is note possible because the log file wont swtich over to word pad or note pad because it looks like a windows media folder.  If i can get it to where it's back to normal then i can do it.  If u no how to do that plz tell me.

Go into your C:\Windows Folder, do you see Notepad.exe?

If you do, Navigate to where you saved the Hijackthis log
Left click on it to Highlight it
Hold down the SHIFT key and then Right Click on the file
Choose OPEN WITH from the menu bar
Open it with Notepad, you should check the Always use this program to open this type of file

If it won't open let me know, but try the above

Yup, you have CoolWeb Infection, let me post a fix, give me a few minutes

Download and save to desktop Notepad_98.zip removed link
Don't Unzip it yet
The above link you will have to Right click on it and Copy Shortcut
Paste it into your IE address bar and hit GO

Download and save to desktop the Standalone Version of CWShredder.exe (http://\"http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWShredder.exe\")

Disconnect from the Internet and close down all Browser windows

Open up CWShredder and click Only the FIX button
Let it Fix all problems
RESTART your computer to finish the cleaning

Once back in Windows
I see you have SpywareDoctor installed
Can you also
Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05 (http://\"http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/\")
Ensure you have this version or the paid version
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the  check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates

Perform a Full system scan--"Uncheck Search for Negligible Risk Entries" before scanning
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button

RESTART your computer  to finish the cleaning process

Back in Windows

UNZIP the contents of Notepad_98.zip to your
C:\WINDOWS folder
Allow to overwrite if prompted

Post back a fresh hijackthis log after you have done the above

Do what you can and then post back

Good Work Ed, we almost got you running safe

You can have Hijackthis fix this entry
O2 - BHO: PCTools Site Guard - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\TOOLS\IESDSG.DLL (file missing)
Remember to fix checked with all other windows closed

You may be interested in this small download
Windows CleanUp! by StevenGould (http://\"http://www.antispyware.nextdesigns.net/installs/cleanup.php?type=exe\")
Install for now but, Don't run a scan yet
This will clean all your temp folders, cookies, etc...
It's a good idea to clean these folders every couple of weeks
After Installation you may find it best to Restart your computer to
SAFE MODE (http://\"http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001060608000039\")
You can do this by tapping the F8 key on the keyboard as the system is booting up
or follow the link to use MSCONFIG

Once in safe mode==Open Cleanup and click on the Cleanup button
Let it finish scanning, when it's done it will prompt you to Restart your computer
Restart back to Normal mode

I don't see AVG running in your log
You should Install it if you have the Installer and  always allow it to run

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 (http://\"http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1\")

There's a link if you need to redownload it

After it is installed ensure you allow it to update and run a Full System Scan

You may want to install this spyware blocker
SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\")

Also, how are you connected to the Internet
Cable, DSL?
Direct connection through the modem or through a Router?

Ok for my internet connection i have a cable modem which is hooked up to a wireless router.
Title: Yahoo toolbar
Post by: Ed on January 17, 2005, 01:43:45 AM
Also with downloading spywareblaster that means ill have 2-3 spyware blockers is it safe to delete 1?  If so will u recomend one for my safety.

Post by: guestolo on January 17, 2005, 01:44:41 AM
I was just checking to see if you needed a Software firewall, I assume that your Router
has Internal hardware firewall(NAT)  capabilities so you should be fine with that then

Which Spyware Blockers are you talking about?
Definitely hold onto Ad-Aware and check for updates every couple of weeks
Not really a Spywareblocker, more of a Spyware Remover
Do a Smart system scan when there's an update, it's quicker
Do a Full System Scan once in awhile

Spyware Blaster--It's a silent spywareblocker----doesn't run in the background
Adds registry entries to help protect you
Remember, check for updates every couple of weeks and enable all protection after every update

By the way, I also recommend SpywareGuard
Real time protection against Spyware
Check it out, the above is what I recommend
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html\")

I assume your new Yahoo toolbar has a built in Pop-up blocker?

EDIT>>If you decide to download Windows CleanUp!
Hold onto it and clean those temp folders every couple of weeks  /biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

You can fix this leftover entry
O9 - Extra button: TREND MICRO HouseCall - {2B5EA4F8-620A-4A8B-B003-4C8C5EBEA826} - http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise...usecall_pre.php (http://\"http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise...usecall_pre.php\") (file missing)

Forgot about this one, me bad
You probably won't need it anymore

The log looks good, although I still don't see any Anti-Virus software on your computer

If your not happy with AVG you may want to check out the free version of AVAST
You only need one AV running, but you need at least one

How's everything running?

Do you notice the entries for AVG in the log, you don't appear to have any of it running?????

I can only suggest that you shut down everything related to AVG that you can see
access your Add/Remove programs and remove it again
Restart your computer when prompted

Back in Delete this folder
C:\Program Files\Grisoft <--folder

REDOWNLOAD and Reinstall it, ensure to run a full system scan once it's properly installed again

The disconnection issue, run the scan first with AVG
This may be a Wireless setup problem, I'm not sure at this point

EDIT>>I would ensure you buy a legitimate copy of Windows XP, fully supported
I'm gone for the night, see ya tomorrow, let me know how you make out with the virus scanner

That's possible, however I usually see that you are controlling startups
Can you do me a favor before I leave for the night

Go to START>>RUN>>type in msconfig
Do a Normal startup >> Ensure that everything is enabled on startup
Restart your computer and let me see another log, thanks

Sorry ED, we have a lot more cleanup ahead of us, we should get you alot cleaner

Can you hold tight until tomorrow night?

I hope you installed
Ad-Aware?

If not, make sure you do

Don't control any startups until we have cleaned your log

Unfortunately, I wish I would of seen that earlier, I promise I'll be here tomorrow evening to advise
Can you wait? I hope so, you need to do some House cleaning

What I can advise right now is to access your add/remove programs and Uninstall some of those programs if found
Many are Malware
Let's start with
ISTbar
ClockSync
Internet Optimizer
NCase
180 solutions or similiar
ClearSearch
SpecialOffers
P2P NETWORKING
<--Usually related to a useless Kazaa add/on can cause slow system performance and unneeded

I would remove Spykiller and Spyware Begone
There on the bogus list
take a look, remove them if you didn't pay for them
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm (http://\"http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm\")

Remember to keep rebooting between each one
If you don't use Wild Tangent uninstall the entries related too it

Restart your computer between removals

I really hope you installed Ad-Aware and followed the directions for a full system scan

Remove those entrie from the Add/Remove Programs and install Ad-Aware if you haven't

If you have, good move
but I'm serious, you have lots of problems hiding there
Then after that

Download and Install Spybot S&D 1.3 (http://\"http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html\")
Yours for free
When Installing, please don't enable TEA TIMER, it's a great addon to Spybot but it can get in our way to do any manual fixes.. This can be enabled at a later time if you want it
After installation--Click the Update button on the left, in the window on the right click the
SEARCH FOR UPDATES button, Check and download all updates
Click the "Search and Destroy" Button
In the right window, click the
Check for Problems Let it complete it's scanning---Ensure to check and FIX Checked Problems--- everything in RED---they should be checked by default

RESTART your computer to finish the Cleaning process

We'll take care of the rest tomorrow night, do the above and then get me that log
Do it all Ed, thanks

Post back here a Fresh Hijackthis log afterwards

Looks like you've been doing some tidying up, I hope your not disabling anything on startup

If I repeat myself, it's only because I have to remember what we have done  /wink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\';)\' />

Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
* Open My Computer.
    * Select the View menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * In the Hidden files section select Show all files.
    * Click OK.

You may want to Print this out again or save to a Notepad file on your desktop

Restart your computer in Safe mode

Look for these files and folders in bold and delete them if they exist

FILES

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mvakop.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ypslsfef.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wdskctl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\fypqn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\liua.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\nywcn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SpecialOffers.exe

FOLDERS

C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer
C:\Program Files\Open Site
C:\Program Files\ClockSync
C:\Program Files\SpyKiller
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc
C:\FREESCAN
C:\Program Files\BestPopUpKiller
C:\Program Files\ClearSearch
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\P2P NETWORKING
C:\Program Files\WildTangent <--optional, but looks like you got rid of it, good move if you don't use it
C:\PROGRAM FILES\SPYWARE DOCTOR <--only because you look like you uninstalled it
C:\PROGRAM FILES\ARES <--looks like you got rid of this too

Stay in Safe mode

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:
I'm just posting the ones that need to be fixed right now, we'll get into the optionals later

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG_CC] C:\PROGRAM FILES\GRISOFT\AVG6\avgcc32.exe /startup <--leftover from AVG 6

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [veybrgmsild] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mvakop.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ypslsfef] C:\WINDOWS\ypslsfef.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wdskctl] C:\WINDOWS\wdskctl.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [fypqn] C:\WINDOWS\fypqn.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Avgserv9.exe] C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVG6\Avgserv9.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Hrac] C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\liua.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Fybcod] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\nywcn.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Hrac] C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\liua.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [Fybcod] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\nywcn.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
YES and exit Hijackthis

Special Note: I see eTrust and Symantec and AVG running on your system
Do you need 3 anti-viruses? I know you had them all disabled
Keep the one that is most up to date>>>And don't disable it
We will disable the others, or better yet uninstall them
FYI---If you decide to uninstall them include them in the fixes with Hijackthis
EG....Symantec, have Hijackthis fix these entries

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccApp] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ccRegVfy] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccRegVfy.exe"

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ccEvtMgr] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ScriptBlocking] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Script Blocking\SBServ.exe" -reg

When you return to Normal mode uninstall Symantec's product

If you decide to keep all 3 AV's but just want to disable them
Don't disable them yet, let's make sure we get you all clean first

Stay in safe mode and run CleanUp again

Restart back to Normal mode and post a fresh hijackthis log

Ensure your not disabling anything on startup
Not much wrong with using Msconfig for doing this but you may want to check out this free utility that does a great job
Plus it removes the entry from the Run string in the registry
A small download that after installed will put an Icon in the Control Panel
Check it out
Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel (http://\"http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml\")

Again, I remind you, don't disable anything yet, either uninstall it or wait to disable startup programs until your clean

Hi again Ed, you can use the method thru msconfig
Go to START>>RUN>>type in msconfig

Under the General tab click on the ADVANCED button
In the new window put a check in
"Enable Startup Menu"
OK it and restart your computer

I'll check back later to see how you made out

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\nywcn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SpecialOffers.exe

You just missed this one
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Avgserv9.exe] C:\PROGRA~1\GRISOFT\AVG6\Avgserv9.exe

I would fix this one too, monitoring device for PC Doctor Online
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCDRealtime] C:\WINDOWS\realtime.exe

Before you fix checked it and restart the computer, now would be the time to Install Mike Lin's Startup control panel, it's a very small download, I consider it much better to use than  Msconfig to control starups

Watch what your controlling on startup
Optional, up to you what you want to control.....

I definitely recommend that you don't have 2 AV's running on startup, this can cause conflicts and slowdowns

Before using Mike Lin's always check within a program itself to disable it on startup and then use the Startup Control APP

I would disable Quicktime and Realplayer
Check within the program first to disable it and then use Mike Lin's
RAM_98.exe <--Never used it, does it use much resources?
Funny how something to help control resources uses resources

Make sure you Restart the computer afterwards

Do the above, and let me know how everythings running

Curious, with the leftover registry entries from AVG 6, is AVG 7 running alright?

There may be places to find out about XP for free, but this isn't the place Ed  /cool.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'B)\' />

You may want try shopping around and see the cheapest you can come up with
Make sure your getting the Full Version
XP HOME will be a bit cheaper

I take it your just using AVG email scanner on startup, looks like it

Hold onto Spybot and Ad-Aware
Check for updates every couple of weeks and run scans
For a little added protection with Spybot
Click the Immunization button--OK--Immunize at the tops
Do this after every update

Check for updates every couple of weeks with SpywareBlaster
Enable all protection after every update

Use Windows CleanUp and clean those temp folders every couple of weeks

Stay safe  /biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
