Guestolo:
Didn't mean to impose on anybody's topic..my bad I just got issues right now with this desktop.exe garbage and popups etcthat seems to be related ever since desktop.exe entered my world.
I had already went to the hijackthis website and created a permanent folder called HJT and made the log from that. I'll make another fresh log and post it in the next reply..stay tuned

Unfortunately you saved Hijackthis to a temporary directory, but before we tackle anything in your log
Could you ensure to download and run these 2 free Spyware Removers
Hang onto both of them
If you already have them ensure you have the latest versions
Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05 (http://\"http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/\")
Ensure you have this version
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Perform a Full system scan--"Uncheck Search for Negligible Risk Entries" before scanning
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button
RESTART your computer back to finish the cleaning process
When your back in Windows
Download and Install Spybot S&D 1.3 (http://\"http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html\")
When Installing, please don't enable TEA TIMER, it's a great addon to Spybot but it can get in our way to do any manual fixes.. This can be enabled at a later time if you want it
After installation--Click the Update button on the left, in the window on the right click the
SEARCH FOR UPDATES button, Check and download all updates
Click the "Search and Destroy" Button
In the right window, click the
Check for Problems Let it complete it's scanning---Ensure to check and FIX everything in RED---they should be checked by default

Looks good, how's everything running?
Just ensure that the folder doesn't exist anymore
You may have to Have Windows Set to Show Hidden Files and folders
Instructions as above
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs <--folder, may not exist anymore, but take a look
If everything is running smooth now, you should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature (http://\"http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm\")
Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled
You should set up protection against future attacks
SpywareBlaster by JavaCool---will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Install---Check for Updates---Enable all protection
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\")
IE-Spyad---IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link
TUTORIAL==Link to Tutorial (http://\"http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=53\")
Download link==Download link (http://\"https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm#IESPYAD\")
Scroll down and click on IE-SPYAD.EXE Free! or IE-SPYAD2.EXE Free!
Regular IE-Spyad for the individual user or IE-Spyad 2 for global protection(All users) on your computer
You only need one or the other
With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply enable all protection
-
Forgot to add
Hold onto Ad-Aware and Spybot
Check for updates every couple of weeks and run a scan
A little added protection
Open Spybot>>Immunization>>OK>>Click on Immunization at the top
Do this after every update
Also Hold onto Windows CleanUp and clean those temp folder, etc.. every couple of weeks
-
Everything is running good thanks very much.
/cool.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'B)\' /> . One thing though which I'm not sure is related or not. In my add/remove prgrams I have an 'iSearch Firefox Installer' . One of the first things I did when this desktop.exe thing started poppng uo was to unistall it but after reboot it would come back. Any thoughts on this? Not sure if I have to create a new topic on ths matter..Please advise..& thank you.
-
Can you try something for me BMW
Go back into Add/remove programs and try uninstalling it again
Restart your computer if it is removed and post a fresh hijackthis log
If it won't remove in Add/remove programs
Open your Registry Editor
START>>Run>>type in regedit
Navigate to this key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
You will do that by expanding(+) each of these
+HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
+Software
+Microsoft
+Windows
+CurrentVersion
+Uninstall
Still on the left hand side look for iSearch Firefox Installer
right click on it and select delete from the menu bar
Exit registry editor
Restart the computer, is it gone?
If your worried about editing your registry
Could you please go to this link
http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/ (http://\"http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/\") and scroll down to
Registry Search Tool
Download,UNZIP and run "RegSrch.vbs"
Copy and paste this in the dialog box:
iSearch Firefox Installer
After a while a prompt will come up.(About 10 seconds) Click OK to write the results to wordpad or notepad and post them
-
Its gone . I didn't bother going into the registry b/c now that I think about it , it use to show up when I logged ontothe internet and these popups would come up & start installing things on my comp (during the desktop.exe era).
Here is the log anyway:

/tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />
Just curious, just want to see what is leftover after the fixes
-
Yes it was gone after the fixes thanks again. NUFF RESPECT!!. I thought about the registry thing after my last post to you and I indeed removed that run key from it anyway b/c as you say it can be a bugger and I don't need a recurrence of this. Might as well be thorough right.
/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />. Words can't express my gratitude. I was thinking restoration and I'm really not in the mood for that
/wacko.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> . You do a great thing...I'll be telling my giriends about you b/c I would have never figured this stuff on my own..Take care!!! until next time
