Title: Slipstream IE5.5 SP2 into W2K CD?
Post by: Anonymous on August 07, 2001, 08:53:52 AM
I was wondering if it was possible to slipstream ie5.5 sp2 into my w2k cd? when I install w2k it has ie5.5, since you slipstream w2k sp* files onto your w2k cd, is it possible to accomplish the same task with ie5.5?

Also is there a way to make a standalone cd of the ie5.5 sp2 files so that I don\'t have to be connected to the internet in order to install it?

Thanks for the info.

I currently do not know of a way to slipstream any internet explorer version into the Windows 2000 install files.
If you have time to kill, you can probably manually overwrite the ie5 files in win2k with the relevant ie5.5sp2 versions.

It is possible to do a standalone download only of ie5.xx
From 9x/ME/NT, run ie5setup and click advanced or custom.
(im in win2k and cant remember the exact order.)
You will be given an option for Download only and an OS choice - 9x, Me, NT, 2k.
the 9x and 2k combined download weighs in at 35MB.

If you are using win2k, its a bit different.
Download ie5setup to say E:

goto start>run and type the following
\"E:ie5setup.exe\" /c:\"ie5wzd.exe /d /s:\"\"#E\"
exactly as I did with all the quotation marks.

Microsoft has an IE Admin Kit for making CD versions of IE and also discusses ways of doing unattended installs.  You can\'t purley slipstream IE5.5 SP2 into the OS install, but you can have a command run after the OS is installed and do a completely silent install of IE.

Here\'s the link to their tool
