Just on my way out the door Edward
Take a look at this link
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\")
Click on Frequently asked question>>It's a link in blue
Having problems? See the Frequently Asked Questions.
In the new page click on
and download the appropriate file from Microsoft
Save it to desktop
Double click to run it
Follow the prompts
I would restart your computer afterwards
Come back here and go back to that link from SpywareBlaster and download and Install SpywareBlaster 3.2
After it's installed
Check for Updates---Enable all protection
This will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies
Hold onot this and check for updates every couple of weeks and enable all protection after every update
I hope the above helps and I can see your Hijackthis log later

Are you sure that's the exact error message that you get when trying to install
something else
Comdlg32.ocx is missing?
Open Hijackthis>>Open the Misc tools section>>Open the Process Manager
Kill these processes
C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS ADSTATUS\WINSTAT.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS ADSTATUS\WINSTATKEEP.EXE
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows AdStatus] C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS ADSTATUS\WINSTAT.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows AdStatus] C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS ADSTATUS\WINSTAT.EXE
O16 - DPF: {15AD4789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/ClickYes.../bridge-c18.cab (http://\"http://static.windupdates.com/cab/ClickYes.../bridge-c18.cab\")
I would fix the next one too, it's not needed at startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BearShare] "C:\PROGRAM FILES\BEARSHARE\BEARSHARE.EXE" /pause
After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis
Restart your computer into SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the computer is booting up
Access your Add/Remove Programs and remove if found
WINDOWS ADSTATUS
Stay in safe mode and delete this folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\WINDOWS ADSTATUS <--this folder
Is that the free version or the paid version of Bearshare?
The free version comes bundled with spyware
READ THIS
http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/ (http://\"http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/\")
I would also suggest that if you don't have it already
Download and Install the free version of Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.05 (http://\"http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/\")
Ensure you have this version or the paid version
Open Ad-Aware, ensure to click the check for updates now link and Connect to download the latest updates
Perform a Full system scan--"Uncheck Search for Negligible Risk Entries" before scanning
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button
RESTART your computer to finish the cleaning process
Post back with a fresh hijackthis log
Comdlg32.ocx>>what is the exact error message and what application is calling for it?

Did you run Ad-Aware through your computer?
Not always needed but have you cleaned out your temp folders?
You may want to try something
Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders, cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup (http://\"http://www.antispyware.nextdesigns.net/installs/cleanup.php?type=exe\")
Install for now but Don't run a scan yet
RESTART your computer, does it freeze on startup?
Now go to Start>>Programs>>CleanUp
Open cleanup and click the CleanUp button
Let it finish scanning for files, when it's done restart your computer again
Does it still freeze up?
When was the last time you did a Disk Defrag on your machine?
This is just regular maintenance, I'm just trying to eliminate possibilities
-
Ok no it did not freeze up but one more thing now. When should i run the clean up thing like once a week? every 2 weeks? what?
-
It's just regular maintenance, most recommend cleaning the temp folders and such
once a week
I say maximum every couple of weeks, up to you
not sure if you seen my edit above, but
Scanning disk for errors and then running the Disk Defrag utilility is part of regular maintenance too, best done in safe mode
I suggest at least once a month, again up to you
-
Ok now it's making me mad! I just tryed rebooting and it froze at the start up. Argh could it be... When the computers loading (not in windows yet) it's booting up it says (boot from CD) FAILURE could that be a possible reason? If so what does that mean anyway?
Really not fun!
-
Have you added New hardware lately?
Have you ensured all the connections are firmly seated and proper?
What's the boot order in the CMOS?
This shouldn't matter, but you don't have a Cd disk in the bay do you?
Just throwing out ideas
-
ok have i added any new software ummmmmmmmmmm no just the cleanup thing u gave me and umm ihave no idea what the CMOS or whatever means so.
-
This shouldn't matter, but you don't have a Cd disk in the bay do you?
Hardware is not the same as Software
Hardware would be like a new CDRom or Harddrive
I'll link you on how to get into your Bios, but ensure you don't change anything if your unsure, your just checking the boot order
http://www.cyberwalker.net/faqs/reinstall-...enter-BIOS.html (http://\"http://www.cyberwalker.net/faqs/reinstall-reformat-winxp/enter-BIOS.html\")
-
i do have a CD rom ive used it a million times it works! there is one in the bay.
-
I meant you don't have a disk in it,do you?
Open up the CD Rom, is it empty?
EDIT>>Has anyone been Inside the computer lately too change anything
Have you moved the computer lately that could of possibly loosened any connections
inside the computer?
-
ummmm no no and if there is another question no lol
-
K, well the balls in your court then
You will have to figure it out on your side
Open up the CD Rom, is it empty? Answer >>No
Well take the cd out and try again
Check the Bios>>Possible answer >>No
