Title: Windows 2k Win98 Dual Boot Different Drives
Post by: Anonymous on August 10, 2001, 07:06:21 AM
I have got Windows 98 SE installed on my second hard drive and installed Windows 2000 on my first hard drive. I had hoped Windows 2000 would have detected 98 and created a dual boot system but it didnt detect it. Please explain if there is any way to get 2000 to dual boot with 98 if 98 is on a different drive without the use of any software that costs money like partion magic.

I am not familiar with your specific configuration, but you can check the bios to see if you can change the bootable hard drive. This will solve the problem but is a bit annoying.

You can try bootpart from this site. Again, I do not know if it will work.

Its ok I have figured out why windows 2000 didnt detect Windows 98 on the other hard drive.

I ran Windows 2000 setup via booting my computer with the CD in, apprantly when Windows 98 or another OS is on a different disk you have to start the Windows 2000 setup from within that operating system. For Windows 98 it was a case of selecting Clean Install, selecting C: and then Windows 2000 detected that Windows 98 was on D: and created a dual boot system.
