Title: questionable boot up screen
Post by: Guest_bill_* on February 16, 2005, 01:01:01 PM
When the computer boots up we get the hp screen for setup then  we get a screen that asks us to choose how we are going to boot up.  Either with microsoft windows xp or windows recovery and you only have 2 seconds to decide and then it continues to boot with microsoft windows xp and boots normally.  Also, after all the fixes Norton anti- virus won't run live update do I still have a virus on my computer or did this get corrupted with everything else that was going on.

I have to assume that you installed the Recovery Console onto your hard drive.....

Here's some info
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-12.html (http://\"http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-12.html\")

The Symantec issue with Live Update
Normally when it won't automatically update it's accompanied with an error message
Do you know the error message?

This is the error message I get from live update version 9.05.15.

live update could not retrieve the catalog file of available symantec product and component updates.  Please verify that you are able to connect to the internet and run live update again.
Thanks

we tried the recovery cd first when we were having all the problems with the computer then I found you guys and didn't need to go any further.

I will check the information you give for the recovery screen
thanks again you guys are great!

This link may be of some help
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/share...002082616293813 (http://\"http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/sharedtech.nsf/pfdocs/2002082616293813\")

But my bet is your Hosts file has been overwritten

You could try opening up Hoster and Restore Original hosts and try again
