Title: Computer slows down
Post by: Scarface101 on March 05, 2005, 11:08:07 PM
My computer slows down after startup, and the hard drive is always busy

It's a Sony VAIO P4 2.8 GHz, Windows XP, I just did a system restore

My standard minimal maintenance checklist for keeping systems stable and running fast:

-- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp)

-- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files)

-- If you use I.E., click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, select "delete all off-line content", click OK

-- Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Disk Cleanup

-- Download AdAware (http://\"http://www.lavasoft.de\"), check for updates, run it and remove whatever it finds

-- Download Diskeeper (http://\"http://www.executive.com\") and defrag

-- Download, update and turn on SpywareBlaster (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\") and SpywareGuard (http://\"http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html\") (or your spyware removal tool of choice).

If it only slows down after you run emule, then maybe emule is a memory leaker. How much memory do you have?
