Title: w2k sp2 error
Post by: silicon_saint on August 21, 2001, 11:59:50 AM
I have been trying unsuccessfully to apply
sp2 to my win-2k professional OS. I keep getting
this error

service pack setup cannot update a checked (debug)
system with a free (retail) version of the service
pack or vice versa.

I have tried the express and networked installation
of the SP but the same error always comes up.

Do you have any ideas

Thanks

Sounds like you have the debug version installed, and that the service pack refuses to install over that.  Did you use a normal retail cd to install?  If you have MSDN disks, did you use one of those instead?  I know they throw in debug versions along with the regular, maybe you installed the wrong one.

You should be able to install a normal copy of Win2k over a debug version.  Then you could apply the service packs without a problem.
