Title: Possible to share Internet between NT & 98?
Post by: tpotman on August 22, 2001, 08:22:31 AM
Hey,

I have 2 computers networked together via ethernet. The other one is using NT 4.0 (service pack 6) and has an ISDN internet connection. The other one is using Windows 98 (not SE). I\'m trying to share the internet connection from the NT machine to the 98 machine, but hasn\'t yet been able. I read somewhere that Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is available in Windows SE only? Is there any way to share the connection with the OSs I\'m using?

You could check for up dates or Download
\"ICS\" from Microsoft...

It is possible to manually configure this setup but if your not experianced in Network cards the internet conection sharing will save you a lot of trouble.

Hope it helps

You can share the internet with 98 and NT... i have a network computer that is right now hook up that NT is the sharing the internet and 98 is the client. In the NT computer, you right click \"My Network Places\" and go to Properties. Then right click the NIC card that has the net on it and go to Properties. This process requires to have two NIC card. One for the Interent and one for the Local Area Network. As well, this process can only work if you have Cable modem or DSL.  In the window with the NIC card. you should have \"Client for Microsoft Networks\", \"File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks\" and \"TCP/IP\" protocol. At the top of the window... there are tabs called \"General\" and \"Sharing.\" Click on the Sharing Tab and there is a box that says \"Enable Internet Connection Sharing for this connection.\" Check it and then the net is shared... no gateway.. no proxy. simply as that. Then all you have to do is make sure the 98 computer has TCIP/IP protocol and surf away on both computer.
