Title: Win 2k & A7V266

Hello again,

I have used a streamlined Win2k SP2 installation disk and installed it on my system with no problems. (system= Athlon 1.4, Asus A7V266 M/B, 512Mb DDR Ram, 41Gb IDE IBM Deskstar 60Gxp HDD, SBLive 5.1, Hayes V.92 modem)

Now when I boot up it sometime locks after logging in or locks when trying to play DVD or music. Also locks when playing Counter Strike. However it seems fine when just surfing the web.

Can anyone offer any ideas?

Ensure that you powersupply is up to the task. You will want a really good quality 300W power supply. My recommendation is a 400W or greater. I believe there is an updated bios for that mobo. Also ,check for updated drivers for the all devices - Video, chipset, sound, etc. AMD also has a patch on their site for win2k. Check that out. Does it also lock with cds, or only with dvds? If it happens with any media, you probably have a faulty drive or a loose cable.

It could well be the power supply then, because i only have a 250w one. I have tried more or less everything else, even swapped the operating system and it locks even then.
