Hi, I just registered here to ask you guys for advice, since I'm all out of ideas on this one...
I keep getting random crashes (BSOD's) with a wide range of different errors. The one time it's BAD_POOL_CALLER, then it's something with a .sys thing, then PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA, or (DRIVER)_IRQL NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and I have no idea what's causing them.
I've swapped RAM (just upgraded from 512 the other day), didnt work. Case is relatively clean, CPU averaging on 50 oC. Shredded drivers several times to no avail. Tried different versions. Scanned for spyware and viruses (Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE 1.06, Spybot S&D, Norman Virus Control + Firewall). All came out clean. I'm really at a loss as to what the problem could be. I've not added any hardware, and at the time it started (about 2 months ago I think) I didn't make any significant driver/software changes. Because I was using RAMpage to defrag memory in the period before that my best guess was corrupt memory. But that wasn't it. Any ideas?

It might just be a problem of basic maintenance. Here's a checklist:
-- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp)
-- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files)
-- If you use I.E., click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, select "delete all off-line content", click OK
-- Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Disk Cleanup
-- Download AdAware (http://\"http://www.lavasoft.de\"), check for updates, run it and remove whatever it finds
-- Periodically empty the browser cache and the java plug-in cache
-- Download Diskeeper (http://\"http://www.executive.com\") and defrag
-- Download, update and turn on SpywareBlaster (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\") and SpywareGuard (http://\"http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html\") (or your spyware removal tool of choice).
If that doesn't do it, then probably you'll have to start checking various components (besides what you've already checked).
-
I do all that on a regular basis.
I've ruled out temperature, since it still happens when I keep my case open (didnt get above 55 oC anyway).
It's not memory either, since I swapped my old RAM with new, even tried different slots, but it still happens.
I've been deinstalling software, but that doesn't really help. I have an 80 GB HD, and 15 GB is currently free. All my program files are mostly essential.
I'll try downgrading my drivers to an old known working version (61.77 I think), since my card is technically not suitable for DX9.
After that I don't know what the hell it's problem is...
[EDIT] That wasn't the problem either...
I've tried using the Windows Debugger, but it says my symbol files are wrong and lots of errors and [censored] so that's not helping me either.
-
It crashed again, on an IRQ error, and this time I managed to get a pretty good readout from the debugger. I just don't know what to do with the information. Have a look:

There is info on the net, hard to track this down
I have seen it a couple times related to malware on the computer
You may want to post a hijackthis log just to be safe
On another note, have you considered creating a fresh restore point and updating to
Service pack 2
It should overwrite the old version of ntoskrnl.exe
Just a suggestion, but try the hijackthis log first
-
The error log I posted is just one of many different errors (BSOD's) I get, most of which's dumps can't be read effectively by Windbg.
Anyway, here's my hijackthis log:

System restore never worked for me. It has never worked since I got this computer. It always says "Could not restore files correctly" or something and it's still in it's regular state, no modifications...
/dry.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'<_<\' />
I've been a little reluctant to install SP2. I'm sure it's better and all, but I run a AVS+FW and stuff, and my HD is jam-packed with utilities and games, and I felt it was too big a risk to update it.
[EDIT]
In the meantime it crashed again while I was browsing for suitable sound files for a prject of mine. This time it seems Kmixer.sys is the culprit. I'm seeing a lot of references to EAX in the debugged minidump. I know my soundcard doesn't support it...I think. But I still have a creative>EAX Unified folder in my program files. The only thing there though is uninstall.uni...

I'm not familiar with this service running on your computer identified with your hijackthis log
O23 - Service: Vgaclieirse - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\java.exe
If you don't know what it's related too, could you try the following
Go to START>>>RUN>>>type in services.msc
Hit OK
In the next window, look on the right hand side for this service
name---- Vgaclieirse
Double click on it--- STOP the service--If running
In the drop down menu, change the startup type to Disabled
Next: to help prevent the rebooting after an error
Try the following
Enter your Control Panel>>Open the System Icon
Click the Advanced tab
Under Startup and Recovery click the Settings button
Under System Failure uncheck Automatically Restart
OK your way out, this may help to identify the problem instead of the computer rebooting
Do you know what this entry in your log is related too?

Sorry for the late reply, I was in Rome last week.
My pc doesnt reboot at a BSOD, I think I turned that off right after I had aquired it.
As for vgaclieirse and pencmdr, those are utilities affiliated with my UC-LOGIC drawing tablet.
