Title: Nail.exe/ thnall1ac.exe

Hello! I have tried following the directions for other posts along this nature. But I can NOT get rid of the popups from Norton Firewall. This thing just keeps creating new .exe's.... the one constant is that it continues to tell me that it is originating from the thnall1ac.exe..... argh. Can you please help? I can't get anything done.

Here is the log file from HJT. I created it all just like you explained in the pinned post....

Oh, I did (I think) manage to delete the nail.exe with HJT, however, I still am getting the popups from it.

UNZIP the contents to desktop
Open the FindIt's folder and double click on the FindIt's.bat

Wait for the log and post it back here

and then close it out

Please copy and paste the rest of the directions too a notepad file and save them to your desktop
Disconnect from the Internet, close out all browser windows

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows,
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis


Run Pocket KillBox>>Now killbox and this notepad file is open
Click on Tools>>Delete Temp files

In the Full Path of File to Delete box, copy and paste the entire line directly below in bold, do not type this in

C:\WINDOWS\SKSDEMO.DLL  

Select the radio button to
 Delete on Reboot
Click The Red circle and a white X
When prompted to Delete on Reboot, click YES
If prompted to Reboot Now, Click NO

When you've entered the last file
Allow the computer to Reboot
or Restart the computer anyways

Try and restart into Safe mode
You can do that by tapping the F8 key as the system is rebooting

In safe mode
Run Ewido Trojan scanner
If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.
Save the report

Open the folder you unzipped rkfiles.zip too
Double click to run Rkfiles.bat
Wait for the scan to finish, give this time
When it's done a log will be produced, save this log
By default, it is saved to C:\Log.txt

Restart back to Normal mode
If, at any time you are prompted by Spybot's Tea Timer or SpywareGuard about a change, Allow them, they are great features but can get in the way of fixes in your hijackthis log

Post back a fresh Hijackthis log and the log from Rkfiles.bat
AFTER posting the logs
Could you also post another log from FindIt's.bat
Also post the report from Ewido's

How do I understand this, not sure if any of us really have it all figured out, but reading a ton of logs sure helps  /biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Could you do the following please
Download and UNZIP to desktop IEFix.zip, so you now have IEFix.reg on the desktop
[attachment=178:attachment]
We'll need this later

Also, download and unzip to desktop
Clear.zip, so you now have clear.reg on the desktop
[attachment=180:attachment]

Double click on IEFIX.reg and allow to merge to the registry
Do the same with Clear.reg

If prompted at any time with SpywareGuard or TeaTimer, allow the change

Restart your computer
Back in Windows

Don't open a browser yet, instead access Internet Options via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Delete files + offline content---Also Reset home page

It's not a good idea to run more than one Anti-Virus software on your computer
You appear to be running Norton's and AVG
This can cause a conflict between the 2 and do more harm than good
Uninstall one of them and restart your computer again after removal

Post back one last hijackthis log and could you run Findit.bat one more time and post the log from it too, thanks

Okay,

I ran the IEFix and clear.reg. I okayed them in teatimer, etc....
 
I uninstalled Norton. My time is running out and I can't buy it right now. So I'm keeping AVG and I'll run trend and Panda online for now. What anti-virus do you recommend?

Since I uninstalled Norton, I downloaded Zone Alarm.

I made the changes in Internet Options you asked for and yes I do run window washer 6.0

I guess I'll let you decide whether you need both Anti-Viruses running
But you may notice slowdowns in startup and general computer experience too
Norton's is definitely not disabled nor uninstalled as shown by your last log
Why don't you unstall AVG until you figure you are done with Nortons?

Anyway's, everything else looks good
If everything is running better

You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks

Thanks Guestolo.  You're the bomb.  I did finally get Norton uninstalled.  And those annoying firewall notices have stopped. And I thought I was well protected. I found out my son has been using Limewire. Only a thought, but I'm guessing it's something he downloaded from there. The only other possibility is from email, I've not downloaded anything from the web. Can this kind of crap be downloaded from simply visiting a website that messes with the active X controls?

All I can say is thank God for people like you that spend the time helping. Regular folks like me (and maybe the others that you help here too) read and check all we know.... and try to keep innoculated the best we can, it's just so complicated.... geez.
