Title: Malware attack

ok, im a newb here and i dont know alot about computers, But i would really like some help please. i have microsoft Antispyware beta, Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware SE Personal.

Ad-Aware is now telling me that i have a malware called "ClickSpring" and whenever i try to delet it, it says it cant, asks to doit on reboot, then on reboot, it doesnt find it, or says i cant delet it again.

if any more info is needed, go ahead and post that...


also i have read some other of the threads here, and im not quite familliar with some of the methods you guys use, so if tell me to do something, i might need you to tell me how to do it.

PLEASE HELP ME!!! it will be greatly apreciated

Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
    * Click Start.
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

ok, when i did the fix checked thing, one of them said it could not be fixed, and suggested i close all internet explores and computer explorers for better luck next time, i cant remeber what the file was but it was one of the BHO files.

and i download the findit files, removed/fixed all the other files, and restarted my laptop....

now what?

Findit2.bat looks clean

Can you do the following please
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE (http://\"http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001060608000039?OpenDocument&ExpandSection=4#_Section4\")
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, after the single post beep, or use the link
I supplied for a more detailed explanation

Next use Windows Explorer to navigate to this location and delete the file in bold:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\d?xplore.exe <--this file was created or modifed on 02/08/2005 and is 417,792 bytes in size.
Approx. 408kb
The d?xplore.exe file may not have the typical .exe icon, so look closely

The ? in the file name is not really a ?, it is just a character that Windows doesn't recognize.

The best way to find this file is to click on (in Windows Explorer) View, Arrange icons by... and select Size.  Then look for files that are 417,792 bytes that were created or modified on 3/17/2005 at 12:01 PM.  There shouldn't be more than one.
When you find the bad file, send it too the recycle bin

Restart back to Normal mode

Back in normal mode, post back one last hijackthis log and also
Double click on findit.bat again and post the contents of the text file

i found and sent a file to the recycle bin, it was 417,792 bytes in size and was called dexplorer.exe, but it wasnt modified or created 3/17/2005 at 12:01 PM. but it was created and modified in the year of 2005.

My copying and pasting today has gone to the dogs

The findit.bat file looks clean now

I first mentioned the file would be created or modified on 02/08/2005

Then I said look for a file created or modified on 3/17/2005

My apologies, good work on tracking down the right file

If everything is running better
You should disable system restore---restart your computer--enable system restore
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
Once reenabled it will create a fresh restore point
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature (http://\"http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm\")

Once back in Windows and System Restore is reenabled

You should set up protection against future attacks
