/blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> I TRIED TO UPDATE MY WINDOWS XP PRO, WHICH WAS INSTALLED BY SOME "NON-PROFESSIONAL" COMPUTER TECHS AT THIS STORE, WITHOUT MY PERMISSION UNTIL AFTERWARDS TELLING ME, THAT THEY TOOK OUT MY WINDOWS ME EDITION AND UPGRADED TO XP PRO...WELL, WITH THAT BEING ON NOTE, WHEN I TRY TO UPDATE IT, IT WILL NOT FINISH UPDATING AND I GO TO THIS LINK FROM MICROSOFT "HOW TO TELL", AND IT SAYS MY WINDOWS XP PRO IS INVALID AND TO INSTALL A VALID XP PROGRAM, WELL, I BOUGHT A FULL VERSION ON WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION ( I DON'T KNOW IF THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOME EDITION AND PRO EDITION) BUT I WANTED TO KNOW, IF INSTALLED, WILL ALL MY FILES BE TRANSFERRED OVER TO HOME EDITION? AND WILL MY COMPUTER EVEN INSTALL MY WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION AT ALL?

Ahhhh....The Trick!
Yes and Yes....XP Pro wont like it but I just did this to a family members PC!
When you get to the prompt to replace files...do not choose to overwrite or replace...just select to install Home Edition over Pro!
Like I said it wont like it but will do it!
I will see if i can find the exact choice to make but If I remember right it will be rather obvious!
I do know if you get the message that all files will be wiped off the Hard Drive...you made the wrong choice!

Problem with this is that it increases the size of the Windows Install!
I hope you have a large Hard Drive and alot of RAM installed!
If it were me,I would copy any files\folders I wanted to save to a CD-R or Cd-RW and Wipe the Hard Drive Clean!
This way when you go to reinstall all the Apps you wont have so many conflicts!
Either way you are going to have to reinstall almost all your applications!
Its a pain but the simplest safest way I know of is to Wipe the HD clean and Start fresh....you will b amazed at how swiftly the PC runs after you are done!
After all that...I would go back to the shop that Installed Pro and Have my way with these folks!
Better yet...tell me where they are! LOL!!!!!
