Title: Annoying Background screen html
Post by: Flo on June 06, 2005, 04:20:53 PM
Ok, there is a really wierd background thing going on on my desktop. Its some kind of file (according to the Settings its screen.html) I dunno what this is, but I have got a sneaking suspicion it is spyware. First I got a message saying I was infected with something. By clicking on it I got a link to the website http://www.antivirus-gold.com/?wm=10035&swm=0 (http://\"http://www.antivirus-gold.com/?wm=10035&swm=0\") and was told to download the programm. Now that I ran Ad-aware and RegCleaner and It's still monopolsing my desktop background I ran out of Ideas. Got any help?

Here's the HJT log entry:

Hey there,

Not sure of this but is it possible that you have Active Desktop turned on?

to check, go to your screen properties, then click on the desktop tab, then cuztomise desktop button, then click on the web tab and from here you can untick the "screen.html"

Anyways, let me know how you go.

This may be completely wrong for the fact that i didn't read your log, but it's a safe bet for the information you have provided.
