Title: Dirty HD problem

I have a generic 8GB Samsung IDE HD  that I have been running Win2k on. I wanted to use it for a new Linux istallation so I used FDisk to blow away the old partitions and created a single partiiton using the entire drive. I installed Linux (Mepis v3.3.1) which went smoothly until I tried to boot up.

When I try and boot Linux from the HD, I get a windows start menu! I ran FDISK again and blew the partiion away, then formatted the disk in DOS. I then ran Linux, used QPartEd to again blow way the old partition and create a new one, I formatted the new partion in Linux, then reinstalled Linux. I still get the Windows start menu when I boot!

FYI: Windows will not load if I select it from the bogus menu, It errors out looking for the Windows boot files. Is there some deeper cleaning of the HD I can do?

Any help or wisdom would be much appreciated!
