Title: HDD temperature : how to control?

Hello, /dry.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'<_<\' />
I run on my PC 2 HDD
1/ Maxtor 6Y060L0 61 GB
2/ Maxtor 6E040L0 41 GB

My 61 GB HD runs at 66° C, my 41 GB runs at 38° C , these value are given by the program HD Tune 2.10 Hard Disk Utility .

Are these figures correct? 66°C is quite hot !!  /huh.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':huh:\' />
How can I control the accuracy of the temp?

Hmm, ya, 66C is a bit too hot for a harddrive. Use the program everest home edition http://www.lavalys.com/ (http://\"http://www.lavalys.com/\") and see what the temps are in that program..it is usually quite accurate.

If its still hot, look into some HDD cooling.

they will keep ur temps down

Thanks for the info, Everest does show the same temperature (actually 66 °c)  /sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />

I will install an other cooling.

Hello,
As soon as I start my PC the HD temperature is 56° C! /dry.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'<_<\' />
I will check my temp with a finger. /tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />
But first I need to move the PC and open the box so that I can see where I put my finger /rolleyes.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':rolleyes:\' />  !!!

Hello,
Both programs give correct temperature. The HD is hotter than the other one due to bad cooling due to the connectors between both HDs.
The HD needs a cooling systems !

If you can, a cheaper option would be to get some airflow over those drives...I am guessing you have none. But if you can't put a fan in there, there are cheap HD coolers out there.

i simply put an 80mm fan in front of both of my hard drives from teh front of the case. both of my hard drives run pretty cool.

it wont be an problem if u're not copying large file into the harddrive simultaneously.

so dont worry about it and who give a s*** if u got more airflow if the air inside ur computer is already warm or hot.....and it wont help a bit when u copy alots of files.

the bestway to help cooling is to get a harddrive heatsinkcooler

Hey there,
   The most important factor to realize here is the ambient tempurature inside the case - this is what I beleive to be the most critical factor of heat issus on HDDs. You need to get this down first, and then get some air flow running over the hard drives. Maybe use some zip locks and arrange cables, install a optical drive bay cooler, hard drive bay cooler w/fan, etc, they will help you out to bring that down.
