Title: Can .sif be read on CD?
Post by: Grandpa on October 01, 2001, 03:55:48 PM
I have a notebook computer in which the cd and floppy drives are \"hot swapped\" as needed.  I am trying to set up a disaster recovery set using my backup software.  I made a bootable CD and have copied the necessary files to it.  But I cannot get it to read the winnt.sif file.  The MS knowledgeable base says these have to be on a floppy, but there must be a way around that.  Would appreciate your thoughts.

What files did you put on and how..im trying to do the same exact thing right now...but i dont understand how to deploy drivers, programs, etc....or even copy a .jpg of myself to the hdd during installation....but here is what i am trying to do friend....when it load\'s all the system files in the beginning...the blue screen..im seeing if i can get it to load the .sif from cd aswell...being that is the screen you must insert the 3 1/2 to have a fully automated installation..how to do it..i have no idea...but im learning almost useless stuff about bootable cd\'s now...will get back to you..

(or maybe you could trick the pc thinking that the entire installation is coming from the A: or whatever your floopy assignment is on your set....i\'m trying too so dont think your alone on that...)

The winnt.sif must be in the i386 folder on the CD, the unattend.txt must be on the floppy disk (same file, just a different name), only use ONE of these, not both at the same time.

The problem here is that this notebook has swappable cd and floppy drives.  I can\'t have them in at the same time.  I have tried putting \"winnt.sif\" in to the i386 folder and it is not read.  Tha\'t the whole reason for my question.
