Title: XP Upgrade Pro to Corp??
Post by: NHA on August 08, 2005, 09:36:14 AM
I'm trying to change Xp versions, from Pro to Corporate, and I'd appreciate some help from this great forum.

My problem is that I would prefer to upgrade rather than do a clean install, so I can keep all my files intact... BUT - The problem is that I get this error -

This version of Windows XP cannot be upgraded.

Does anyone know why this is, and if theres a workaround?

Many thanks.

What would be the point?  Doesn't pro do everything that corp does?

Pro, and Corp are identicle.  There is no need to upgrade.

Corporate versions are the Professional version for companies that need to install Pro on several hundred/thousand machines in which they buy the licenses for that many machines, and use one key to install them all. Otherwise you would be left with the problem of having to activate that many machines....and any changes on a large scale basis could leave some of the machines useless waiting for new activation. Time wasted companies cannot afford to lose.

If the person installed XP Pro on their system as a retail product, they won't have the OEM signature. This only comes from versions installed from corporations such as Gateway, Dell.....etc.
