Title: Basic Windows Problem

Well, I guess this would be a decent post to you guys considering its not about hacking windows or anything like that. And I'm not retarded when it comes to computers either. Here's the problem: Anytime I double-click on any of my folders in my hard drive, instead going into the folder like it has for an eternity, it opens up a search folder. I've went into Folder Options, System Settings, Tools, etc. And I can't find how to turn off that setting. This is practically the first problem i've ever had. Messing with the BIOS is quicker than me looking for the answer. Anyone know what to do?

Open up any folder
Click on tools
Click on Folder Options
Click on Restore Defaults

Yeah, i've already done that, and it didn't work. I've even gone into the area where you can designate actions for every different type of file, folder, pictures, ect. on the computer and tried changing the settings that way. I really don't know what else to do.

Let me ask you a couple of questions to see if I can narrow things down a bit.

When you open a folder what does it read in the address bar?

Are you going into a search folder or does the folder turn into a website with a search engine?

Is this what is appearing on your screen?

If so just click on the where it reads:
Search Companion                       "X"

And one last thing. Do you remember installing anything before this problem began?

I didn't install anything. The page that opens up isn't internet related. It's the search page that is inside windows that searches for programs, files, pictures, etc. inside of your hard drive. When I right-click on a folder, the top three options that pop-up are Search(which is in bold), open, and explore. Normally the order would go Open(in bold), explore, then search. And when I double-click on the folder, a new folder pops up with the search pane on the side, just as if I had gone to the start menu and clicked on "Search: For files or folders" myself. Nothing happens on the old page, just that new page pops up

I hope that gives a better explanation of my problem. Sorry I wasn't so exact beforehand.

Instead of double Clicking, what happens when you right click on the folder and select open? Does it still open the second search folder?

Resetting the folders usually would fix any problem that is going on with the folders. I am beginning to think that Explorer is having some problems. Maybe in the registry.

The plan is trying to Reset IE.

Try this First:  (I have a feeling this will resolve the issue. )

Try This Second:
Also download Microsoft anti spyware beta. Perhaps it is spyware causing all the problem and that is why we can't reset the folders.

Try This Third:
Do you have Service Pack 2 installed? If not maybe you can get it installed. Windows runs on Internet Explorer. So if we can update that would be great. If you have any problems downloading the update read my post:

Try this Fourth: (You may even try this first)
If none of this works, you can always do a system restore to when the problem was not in existence.

Click Start
Click Run
Copy and Past: %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe
Click OK.

I will continue to research the problem as this is the first time that I have heard of this problem and it is a little difficult to resolve due to me not having the system in front of me.

Holy crap...thanks Questolo. That worked perfectly. And I don't feel like a dumbass anymore cause the problem wasn't as simple as I thought it would be. Thanks again!
