Title: Computer has spyware
Post by: mengskx on October 04, 2005, 10:18:02 PM
My computer is acting really slow, the windows media player is skipping when I play video files, when my computer is idle I get random popups... The computer will not boot up in safe mode, it shows that it is, but it just sits there for ever. When I play games online it sends me to the desktop with internet explorer popups. Here is my hijack this log file, I ran this in normal mode... with hijack this 1.99.1

Your log still has some problems, can you try and now run Spybot from the instructions I gave you

Remember to restart your computer

Afterwards,
Go to START>>Run
type in
msconfig
Hit OK

Select Normal startup under the General tab
Apply it and close but Don't restart yet

Instead, come back here and supply a fresh hijackthis log

Can you also
Download the zipped file below and unzip it to desktop
so you now have Find.bat on the desktop
Doubleclick on Find.bat
A text file should open
Copy and paste back the whole contents

This was selective startup.  I have only my razor mouse selected.  Otherwise there is a bunch of other stuff.
My computer actually played windows media player videos and restarted automatically!  This is the best it has run in a long while.  I just ran spybot and it fixed 218 problems.  Seems the main problem has been fixed.

Title: Computer has spyware
Post by: guestolo on October 10, 2005, 09:55:51 PM
Can you do the following
If you didn't purposely install Viewpoint
Access your Add/Remove programs and remove the 3 entries
Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)
Viewpoint Media Player
Viewpoint Toolbar (Remove Only)

If you didn't purposely install Weatherbug remove it too
I believe that WinMx is officially offline
You can remove it too

If any of the following are older versions and/or free versions of file sharing programs
All may contain spyware that slows your system
I'll leave this up to you to keep or remove them
Bearshare
Kazaa Media Desktop 2.0.2
LimeWire 4.8.1
Morpheus Software

Any of these poker related programs you didn't intentionally install
Remove them too
Paradise Poker
PartyPoker
Royal Vegas Poker

Restart your computer if any or all of the above are removed

Back in Windows

==Download and then Install
Ewido Security Suite (http://\"http://www.ewido.net/en/download/\")

When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/ (http://\"http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/\")

==Download and Install this small program
to help clean your temp folders, cookies, etc...
Windows Cleanup! 4.0 (http://\"http://downloads.stevengould.org/cleanup/CleanUp40.exe\")
Don't run this yet, we'll need it in a bit
Alternate download location (http://\"http://www.spywareaid.com/index.php?file=showsoftware&id=1\") if having trouble with the first link

Download miekiemoes' LQfix batch here:
http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiem...tools/LQfix.zip (http://\"http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/tools/LQfix.zip\")
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.
This is different than the last LQFix you downloaded

Open Notepad (START>>>RUN>>>type in notepad)
Hit OK
Copy the contents of the CODE box to notepad, not including the word "code"
In Notepad click FILE>>SAVE AS
IMPORTANT>>>Change the Save as Type to All Files.
Name the file as fix.reg

Save this file on the desktop, well need this later, don't run it yet

Code: [Select]
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa]
"Windows Services Hosts"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole]
"Windows Services Hosts"=-

Please disable SpySweeper realtime protection so it won't interfere with any fixes
We will reenable it once you are clean
Open it and click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".

Please print this out or save these instructions to notepad for reference
RESTART your Computer in SAFE MODE (http://\"http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001060608000039?OpenDocument&ExpandSection=4#_Section4\")
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads, or use the link

OK, we have to kind of start again as I didn't see everything that was disabled on startup
Additionally, you must make sure that SpySweepers realtime protection is not running
I gave you instructions earlier on how to disable it

From this point on, until you are clean, don't disable any startups with msconfig
You can choose to do that after we get you clean

Can you do the following please
Do another scan with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ynkp] C:\WINDOWS\ynkp.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [YGDJ] C:\WINDOWS\YGDJ.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsA.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Services Hosts] svhosts.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service75] C:\WINDOWS\etb\pokapoka75.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ares] "C:\Program Files\Ares\Ares.exe" -h
O4 - Startup: Red Privada Masculina.lnk = C:\Privado\dd_g55.exe

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows, including this one
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis

Restart your computer into safe mode

Search for the following file on your hard drive and delete if found
Take note of the spelling, don't delete something because it looks similiar
svhosts.exe

In safe mode,
Double click to run LQfix.bat, a window will open a close, this is normal

Restart back to Normal mode

From my signature below
Visit Panda's online scan, run a scan
When it's done, if anything found infected
You will have the option to save a Report, do so and post it back here

Also run Hijackthis again and post a fresh log

Also, Download:  Registry Search Tool from this link
http://billsway.com/vbspage/ (http://\"http://billsway.com/vbspage/\")

Unzip and double-click "RegSrch.vbs"
Note: if your Antivirus or another program prompts about running a ".vbs" file, allow the script to run

In the open field copy and paste the below in bold then hit OK

svhosts.exe

Wait for the results and post them back here

Good work
That looks better now, can you do the following please

If everything is running better, please do the following
You should disable system restore>>Reboot your computer>>and then reenable it
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature (http://\"http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm\")

Once System Restore is reenabled

You can go back and disable whatever you feel like with msconfig
Except for your AV, that would be dumb  /tongue.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':P\' />

Also
You should set up protection against future attacks
SpywareBlaster 3.4 by JavaCool (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\")
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"

IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
Here is a tutorial and download link

Download link (http://\"https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm#IESPYAD\")

With both, Check for updates every couple of weeks
Keep the link to IE-Spyad bookmarked so you can check for updates
SpywareBlaster, after every update just simply click the "enable all protection"
IE-Spyad is compatible with SP2

To simply hide Windows Messenger
Go to your add/remove programs
Select Add/Remove Windows Components
Uncheck Windows Messenger
Click Next
and Ok it

Sounds good, you can go back and rehide hidden files and folders

Since your problems appear resolved, I'll lock this topic
If you need it reopened, please PM myself or the site Admin and supply a link to this thread

Take care  /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
