Title: computer is shot need to reformat,,how??

Hi,
I have just picked up a faster newer computer then the one im useing now. But for me to use it I must fix it....... I thought i could just reinstall the windows ME thats on it and id be fine.... but it wont work.

I dont know what happend to the computer but when i turn it on it says this: "Cannot find system.INI  Boot with emergency boot disk and type scanreg/restore"

Thing is i dont have any boot disk for it...just the windows me disk that came with the computer. So i tryed to boot the comp. with the windows disk and when its doing its diskscan it finds a ton of files that need to be fixed. When i click "fix it" there are some it cant fix then the computer locks up before its finished. My best guess is its a virus but i have now idea for sure.

So now i want to just: reformat the c drive if i can?? or run a virus scanner on it if i can... but im stuck cause i dont know how to go about that.... I cant get anything from windows to work... but i can get to a dos promt by useing the windows boot disk if that helps.
Can anyone help??

I recommend trying to get your hands on Windows XP and installing it. Watch this video for all the details.
