Title: Win2K no serial prompt
Post by: Anonymous on October 23, 2001, 11:13:14 PM
I modified  the pid code from 51873000 to 51873270.
Win2K installed without prompting me for the serial but close to the end of the install, it gave me an error \"Setup was unable to retrieve  Product Identification of the system you are installing.\"

anyone pls help

thanks

I got the same error with my origional Windows 2000 Pro, and I followed the directions. What I\'m saying is that my copy is not an evaluation and it didn\'t work for me. either.

Ok, but most of the time it\'s because they\'re trying it on an evaluation version (it does not work at all for that).  You are just changing the last three numbers to 000 right?  Don\'t change the whole thing.  What version is your copy?  OEM, Upgrade, Retail, etc.?

I have 5.00.2195, which I bought retail. It\'s possible that I made a mistake, so I\'ll try again next time I re-install.
