Title: Making an operating system disc.

I have all the files for windows xp home edition on my pc and I want to put them on a disc that will run on the system boot (ie I get the message "Boot from CD"
I tried burning the files to a normal disc but this didn't work.  Could someone please tell me what type of disc I need to burn and if I need and special software besides nero to do this?
