Are you saying you can use the Win2k Boot.bin files?

I used the same files and they work flawlessly. You really only need the boot.bin file, the others should already be in your folder.

I made a copy of my XP CD. What I did was create an ISO using WinISO. Then I added the extra folders I wanted on the CD. For some reason, through experimentation, I found that I could only burn the resulting image in Nero if I convert the ISO image into a Bin image.

What I can\'t figure out is how to make my upgrade CD act like a full product. Let me explain. What I was hoping is that by putting a copy of the Win folder from my Windows 98 CD on the new XP CD, I could have the upgrade look onto the same CD and find Win 98 and be satisfied. Well, I put the win98 folder on the CD, but during the upgrade it said it couldn\'t find a qualifying product. I had to put the Win 98 CD into my other drive.

Somewere on the web I have found boot images for all the XP cd\'s, but they seem to be the same file.

Microsoft are also allowing people to download the Boot flopy images from them. these may be usefull to make a multi boot os cd with xp  on.

What version of Nero are you running? In the older versions that would be correct, you could only burn bin and nrg images, but with the latest versions theres a drop menu that lets you specify if you want to look for an ISO image and it will then burn it. Check to see if your version is eligible for the upgrade. As long as it\'s version 5.0 or newer it should be.

If you haven\'t found any of those \"copies\" then you haven\'t looked very hard. All you need is broadband and a file sharing app. Very simple.

Hasbro, If you have a legit copy of XP and a previous legit version of windows 98 or newer (which it seems like you do from your post), email me and i will tell you how to make your XP upgrade cd act like a full one so you don\'t have to go through the action of putting the previous version of windows into the cd-rom and then putting the xp cd back in to continue the installation.  It works. I\'ve done it myself.  I don\'t want to post it on the message board because others might use it to get around the upgrade without having a previous version of windows.

Edit:  Email address edited out.

I\'m guessing you get around the upgrade by changing the setupp.ini?  I do not have an upgrade CD to try it on, but it seems as though it would work.

indirectly, yes setupp.ini was changed but that was not all that i did.... i don\'t know if just changing setupp.ini would do it but who knows.. it might...  i know that changed and xp home upgrade cd into a cd that thought it was xp pro corp but without the extra features of xp pro

Could you explain how i can boot and install XP from a legit OEM copy of winxp pro?

So i guess my question is realy 2 questions.
how do i make a bootable  Winxp pro OEM disk.

and can i some how move all the boot files from one drive to some other drive and make it boot.

I did install it from my pervious operating system win98 to a new hard drive but now i have the boot files on the old drive and the new xp on the new drive...i would like to only use my new hard drive but it wont boot without the old one in there.

Thanks,
Migraine

For example, you could do this with cdimage this way:

cdimage -lWHXFPP_EN -t08/18/2001,12:00:00 -n -h -bd:boot.bin d:winxp d:whxfpp.iso

this will mastering the files from directory d:winxp with
cdlabel whxfpp_en, filedate 8/18/2001 and 12:00 timestamp, also with hidden files and support for long file names, and create the iso in d:

TO CREATE AND BURN A BOOT CD IN NERO:  (xp bootable)

1) Close the \"Wizard\" and select \"File\" \"New\"
2) Scroll down the CD types and select \"CD-ROM (Boot)\"
3) A New right pane BOOT tab will appear. Select \"image File\" as the \"Source of Boot
Image Data\" and browse until you point to the \"xpboot.img\" file you downloaded above,
or \"xpboot.bin\" or \"boot.bin\" if you already have those files.
4)\"Enable Expert Settings\" and select \"NO EMULATION\", Boot Message is MICROSOFT CORPORATION, Load Segment remains default of 07C0, and change Number of Loaded Sectors to 4.
5) Click on LABEL Tab, enter the Volume Label as WXPVOL_EN for Corporate Build or whatever is correct. Enter MICROSOFT_CORPORATION as the \"Publisher\" and \"Data Preparer\".
6) Click BURN Tab and make sure \"Write\", \"Finalize CD\", and Write Method of \"Disc-At-Once\" are checked.
7) Click ISO tab to check. The defaults on this tab are correct - they are ISO level 1, Mode 1, ISO 9660, Joliet
8) Click \"New\" in the right corner to add your files. Add files with Drag & Drop as normal. When you have finished with your files, select the \"Write CD\" icon or \"File, Write CD\"
9) The boot dialog box will pop-up again, and if you\'re paranoid you can double check your settings. On the boot tab your \"Expert\" settings are grayed out, but still there - this is normal.
10) Select \"Write\" and burn your bootable CD.

Option: Once the CD is burned you can save your setup in Nero. Then when you want to burn another XP Corporate Boot Disk, just open the saved *.nrb and burn. The saved file is just a list of files and settings.

Now you can create your Boot CD\'s with Nero without having to use another program when you need to create a bootable CD from files!!
remeber you need the boot image which is 2kb

the best way to do it is to have two drives, obviosuly one being a cd rw and the other a cdrom or a dvd...you need to follow the instaructions i posted..you need to put the xp cd in the cd rom/dvd drive and drag the contents to the boot cd that you should of made and then burn, and this will allow all files to copy, if you havnt got a spare cd rom drive you will have problems doing it this way..

sorry i mist out the vital info, you need to make a change to the registry.....

Edit the Registry:

____________
1) Start -> Run \"regedit\" and go to \"HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareaheadNero - Burning ROMGeneral\"

2) In the right pane the top entry is \"AddISOFileVersion\"

3) Right Click on \"AddISOFileVersion\" and select \"Modify\"

4) The value will be \"1\", highlight the value and change to \"0\" - that\'s zero.

5) Close regedit, reboot

and then do what you did before, it should work

Some of the new Bios have what you call (cd boot), go in to your bios and look for a menu should be the 2rd one down and go into it, move down to were it say\'s boot sequence,
and use page up and page down located nere the delete and end button and move arross to c,cd rom,a / cd rom,c,a make the cd rom first like this cd rom,c,a or some thing like that, press ESC and save to cmos and exit. Put the XP cd in to the Dvd,Cd Rom, Cdr,Crw and it will boot from the cd.  Good luck
