Title: smss.exe project1 virus or spyware, and winlogon.exe

system32 folder missing, and this is where the files smss.exe as project1 in my zonealarm and winlogon.exe are tyring to access through firewall to outside.

same time don't see system32 folder in c:\windows

also getting error when try to run cmd from start -> run -> cmd
error is:
c:\Windows\system32\cmd.com
C:\PROGR~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I thought even an xp install, R to repair would put it back, but no good.  Any help how to get rid of this pesky virus/spyware, if i do infact have it, and how to fix this windows related problem with missing system32 and cmd not running?

I need to see a Hijackthis log
From my signature below
Download and save hijackthis to a permanent folder on your harddrive

Open hijackthis.exe
Do a SCAN and Save a Log file---Save the log----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log  here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important

It's getting late here, I hope to see your log tonight to get you started, if not I will look at it tomorrow
