For some reason, my PC likes to reboot sometimes when it\'s in the middle of loading Win2k Pro (loads WinME fine everytime). The only way around it so far is to use hibernate whenever possible
/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' /> Here\'s my specs:
700@933 Coppermine
Abit SE6
128MB PC133 Crucial Ram
2 30gig 7200RPM Maxtor drives (the one with Win2k is on the Promise Ultra66 controller)
4x DVD
8/4/32A Plextor
Voodoo5 5500 (same problem with a Radeon in instead)
Sblive Value OEM
Any ideas?

Have you tested without overclocking or a less overclocking ratio?
Time to learn is endless
-
No, but I seriously doubt that\'s it. Everything else is rock stable...no problems in WinME. If it still happens on the Asus board I\'ll try 700MHz.
-
It still happens occassionally on the Asus board but not as much. Overall it is very stable, just sometimes it gets it in its mind to reboot.
-
Seems that that board has his own personality

They all do! I bet it\'s just a Win2k crash, since it\'s set to just automatically reboot in that case. I could check my error logs but I\'m too lazy

And it\'s not that big of a problem....if it was I\'d try tracking it down better.

check so that your antivirus program and cdr program is win2k
compatible!!!!!

If you are talking about Windows 2000 starting up, then you may want to try booting into safe mode and then right click My Computer, click properties, click the Advanced tab, click Start up and Recovery, then uncheck the box that says Automatically Reboot under System Failure. This may keep it from rebooting and bring you to a BSOD or something that will tell you what is causing this problem. I\'m also assuming you have Windows 2000 and ME on separate partitions right?

I am having the same exact problem
Random Reboots doing basically ANYTHING but playing a game.
My husband and I have identical computers
We both recently reformatted and put Win2K on our machines
Now when we \"boot up\" (not allways but 2 or 3 times a day)
our computers will just reboot themselves.
BOTH computers do it
surfing the web becomes a pain. computer just up and shuts itself off.
The weird thing about it is once we are in a Fullview Game (like EverQuest) it wont reboot itself -at all- until you exit the game.
Then it goes back to rebooting.
Many times Win2k hasn\'t even had a chance to load up to desktop befor it reboots.
Now one of the computers wont even boot up past that second screen that shows \"system configurations\"
then all the information and at the bottom:
\"Verifying DMI Pool Data\"
it wont go any further then that.
(rarely it will go ahead and boot up beyond that)
but its getting Gradually worse.
any help at all or suggestions will be greatly Appreciated

I think it\'s your cpu 933 is a 133 cpu .
BE6 has a 440bx chipset i suppose (supports only 100 fsb ) .
Perhaps Voodoo 5000 not recognized .
-
sorry I see know you have an abit se6 instead of be6 .So there is no cpu or fsb problem .CPU overheating by overlocking cannot take place at booting up .
It could be some driver incompatibility ,but then you would get a blue screen , and w2k would in most cases correct the error .It must be the hardware , video card , cpu , dirty contact or so ,

I had something similar happen to my computer. It would reboot out of the blue while i was doing anything but playing games. I started to realize it would only happen when I right click on something. I turned off the fading context menus, and now my system is perfectly stable. Hope it\'s that simple for you!

Hey man I\'ve had win2k in my compaq .. other than compaq denying that there were drivers for win2k for my computer I haven\'t had a single problem .. If it locks up I just c-a-d go to task manager and close the offending program .. my computer has been up for 398 days now never shut it down once .. it\'s a pIII 850 512megs of ram and the onboard agp graphics support .. I use all resolutions and color depths I\'ve played every game I have from DOOM to DuesEx to SC3K.. I use this system to edit video and send it to my dual p4 for compilation it\'s been up for two months straight now same OS and never one problem..

Check your ACPI - APM settings. Windows 2000 would like a fully compliant ACPI machine, without a hint of APM. Disable APM in BIOS, but for god\'s sake make sure that ACPI is configured properly.
That will fix your problem.

I have the same problem mentioned above. My system has win2k on one partition and win98 on the other.
"Verifying DMI Pool Data..."
it wont go any further then that.
Since this error started I have not been able to boot up. Previously, it would suddenly reboot for no apparent reason. I don't have a lot of peripherals attached and I tried disconnecting them all but this does not change the problem. (I disconnected the modem, the ethernet card, the memory sticks, the cdr and dvd rom, left the video card and floppy as recommended by the motherboard user manual)
I tried a bit of cleaning but that didn't seem to help either.
I also got a blue screen sometime before that, but the pc seemed to recover.
Also I noticed something very strange. If I lift the group of wires coming from my power supply, (in trying to clean etc) it causes the computer to power on. I don't think this is supposed to happen. I usu have to turn the power switch at the back to off in order to prevent it.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!! The manual does not mention what to do if their recommendations don't work.

Not sure if this will help Miss Parker, but
I would first ensure that ALL the connections running in and to the computer are seated tightly
That would be the first plan of attack
