I would appreciate it if someone would help me remove the Alcan worm. Don't where or how I got it but I have it. I've read other threads and I've installed Hijack This and I've got my first scan ready. Just waiting to see if it's ok to send it to you. Thanks so much, Stormie

Please go ahead and post your hijackthis log in a reply back to this thread

Can you let me know the following
Then we're going to do some fixes to help clean you up
Besides having Norton's installed for AV protection
What tools do you have installed for Spyware
Eg.. Ad-Aware or Spybot
Don't go install anything else yet, I would just like that info first
-
I use Ad-Aware, I also have SpySubtract (it came already on my computer) and I have Cleanup:)
-
One more bit of info please and I promise we'll do cleanup procedures
/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
Can you open Ad-Aware please
In the main window click on DETAILS under Initialization status
Can you let me know Ad-aware
Reference no. and Internal build
You can copy and paste that info by highlighting it and use the 2 key combination
{Ctrl + C } keys on your keyboard to Copy it, then paste the info back here
-
Here you go:)
Reference Number : SE1R82 19.12.2005
Internal build : 95
-
Ah, good, it is up to date
We'll need it later
Can you do the following please
When I ask you too download a zip file, make sure you choose SAVE TO DISK rather than Open
Can you open "MyComputer"
Double click to open Local Disk C: drive
Right click an empty spot and left click NEW>>Folder
A new folder will be placed in the C: folder , name it BFU
So you now have C:\BFU
Download and save p2pnetwork.zip (http://\"http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=426\")
Then UNZIP it to the BFU Folder
So you now have p2pnetwork.bfu extracted to the BFU folder
Download and save and then UNZIP to the BFU folder
BFU.zip (http://\"http://www.merijn.org/files/bfu.zip\")
So you now have BFU.exe extracted
==Download and Install
Windows Cleanup! 4.0 (http://\"http://downloads.stevengould.org/cleanup/CleanUp40.exe\")
Don't run it yet
==Download and then Install
Ewido Security Suite (http://\"http://download.ewido.net/ewido-setup.exe\")
When installing, under "Additional Options" Uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
From the main ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
Close out Ewido for now, we'll need it later
If for some reason the Updater won't work can you manually download the
Updates from this link after you have Ewido installed
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/ (http://\"http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/\")
Please save these instructions to a Notepad file and save it to your Desktop for reference
or Print them out!
RESTART your Computer into SAFE MODE
You can do this by tapping the F8 key as the system is restarting, just before Windows loads
Choose Safe mode from the startup menu and hit Enter
Once in safe mode
Find and delete this file if found,
C:\WINDOWS\system32\requester.11.exe <-this file
Open the BFU folder
Double click to run BFU.exe
Use the "Open Script file" button (the folder icon next to Scriptfile to execute)
Navigate to p2pnetwork.bfu in the BFU folder
Right click p2pnetwork.bfu and choose Select
In Brute Force Uninstaller select Execute
Let it finish then Exit
==Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
* Empty Recycle Bins
* Delete Cookies
* Delete Prefetch files
* Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
When it's done, decline to log off or restart the computer
==Open Ewido Security Suite
Click on the Scanner button on the left menu
Select Complete System Scan
*If Ewido finds something it will prompt you with "Infected Object found"
Ensure the following are Selected
*1. Perform Action = Remove
*2. Create Encrypted Backup in Quarantine (Recommended)
*3. Perform action with all infections
Then click OK
When Ewido has finished it's scan click the "Save Report" button
Save the report to desktop
Exit Ewido
NOTE: When Ewido is running, don't open any other Windows
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [requester] "C:\WINDOWS\system32\requester.11.exe"
O16 - DPF: {11F1D260-129E-4EB7-B37E-57E3D97A3DF1} - http://akamai.downloadv3.com/binaries/P2EC..._1044_EN_XP.cab (http://\"http://akamai.downloadv3.com/binaries/P2EC..._1044_EN_XP.cab\")

After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis
Open Ad-Aware
Click START
Click the radio button to Perform a Full system scan then click NEXT
When it's finished scanning
At this point you should either right click on the screen and and choose the "Select All" Objects option or individually put a checkmark in each objects checkbox
click on the Next button. Ad-Aware SE will now present you with a confirmation box as to whether or not you would like to remove the objects you have just selected. Press the "OK" button
RESTART your computer back to Normal mode
Back in Windows
Can I see the following
1. Run another System scan and Save logfile with Hijackthis and post the log
2. Post the report you saved earlier with Ewidos
NOTE: If SpySubtract at any time prompts about any changes
Allow them so it won't interfere with the fixes we are trying
-
Ok, I'm ready to turn my puter off and go into safe mode but one question before I go....
If I tick this----- http://install.homestead.com/~site/Install...HS_live.cab---- (http://\"http://install.homestead.com/~site/Install...ive/HS_live.cab----\") will it affect my Homestead Sitebuilder? This is how I make my webpages and my website is with Homestead.
Thanks:) Stormie
-
You can leave that entry alone then Stormie
It's an activex controller
Would of been reinstalled if needed
But since you need it, just omit only that one entry
Since you haven't started yet
Can you add this entry into the fixes with Hijackthis
Definitely not needed on startup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
Here's what it's related too
Realtek AC97 Audio - Event Monitor. Spyware file used surreptitiously monitor one's actions. It is not a sinister one like remote control programs but it is being used by Realtek to gather data about customers
-
I sure can and thank you. I know this kind of thing goes along with computers but it still does NOT make me happy to have someone/s spying on me:(
Wish me luck...I'll be back>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You have BFU.exe, so you won't need to download it again
RIGHT-CLICK HERE (http://\"http://metallica.geekstogo.com/EGDACCESS.bfu\") and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download EGDACCESS Remover. Save it in the folder you made earlier
C:\BFU folder
Go to the desktop and double-click on edgafix.vbs to run it.
If you have a resident script blocker it may warn you about or stop the vbs script. Please allow it, it is harmless.
You will get a prompt looking like this
c:\windows\system32\random.exe -uninstall
Click OK to execute that command.
You will be prompted if you are sure you want to uninstall. Confirm.
After a little while you will get a prompt the application was removed.
Proceed with the following
Open the BFU folder
Double click to run BFU.exe
Use the "Open Script file" button (the folder icon next to Scriptfile to execute)
Navigate to EGDACCESS.bfu in the BFU folder
Right click EGDACCESS.bfu and choose Select
In Brute Force Uninstaller select Execute
Let it finish then Exit
Reboot the computer
Post a fresh hijackthis log, let me know how things are running

Let's do a double fix on this entry to make sure it's gone
Double click on fix.reg and again allow to add to registry
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to this entry if found
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bsonekavzm] c:\windows\system32\bsonekavzm.exe bsonekavzm
After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis
Make sure you allow any changes if SpySubtract prompts
Reboot the computer
Post one more hijackthis log and let me know if you have any more popups
-
No popups so far and the last thing you wanted me to remove if it was there...it was still there. Here's my new scan after the last reboot.

That's looking good
Can you do the following
For added protections
You should install this free tool
SpywareBlaster 3.4 by JavaCool (http://\"http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html\")
*Will block bad ActiveX Controls
*Block Malevolent cookies in Internet Explorer and Firefox
*Restrict actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer
After installation, Check for updates and then click the "Enable all protection"
Check for updates every couple of weeks
after every update just simply click the "enable protection on all unprotected items"
If you surf a bit and everything seems well
Final cleanup
If everything is running better, please do the following
You should disable system restore>>Reboot your computer>>and then reenable it
This will clear all your restore points and ensure you don't restore any nasties
How to Disable and Re-enable System Restore feature (http://\"http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm\")
Make sure you reenable system restore feature

I'm an hour ahead of you and hope it's ok if we finish tomorrow:) I'm about to fall asleep here:) I can't believe it's taken 6 hours so far. More than that I can't believe you stayed with me that long to help. Thank you hardly seems enough but I sure do thank you! I will be back first think in the morning to finish what was in your last post. Have a great evening. You've made mine sooooooo much better!
Stormie
-
That's ok, I'm off to bed soon too
The original problem you enquired about
Alcan worm
Came from your file sharing program>>Limewire
Be careful with everything you download
Scan it first with your virus scanner before opeining it
The latter problems>>InstantAccess or Zipzap Promo popups
I'm not sure where you got it from
/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
EDIT>>Can you find this file and delete it if found
c:\windows\system32\bsonekavzm.exe <-this file
-
Good Morning:) I did everything you said in your post last night. I installed SpyBlaster etc. My computer booted up in 1/4 of the time it had been taking. I'm impressed with you!
I have a couple of questions...Do you know how to run a scan on the songs I download in Limewire? I'm afraid to open Limewire now. Do you think the Alcan worm is still in Limewire? I don't ever want to go through this again. I think the other things you mentioned may have got on my computer by downloading a screensaver from Freeze. As soon as I did that my computer went nuts. I would never recomend that to anyone.
My second question is how do I look for this that you requested in your last post.....
EDIT>>Can you find this file and delete it if found
c:\windows\system32\bsonekavzm.exe <-this file
I'm not sure what to do here.
-
I won't preach about file sharing programs
Just be careful
Once you save a file to your harddrive
You should be able to Right click on it and have Nortons scan it
Remember to always keep norton updated with latest definitions or it's useless
That file>>Can you open "MyComputer"
Double click on Local Disk C: to open it
Double click on windows folder>>
then the system32 folder
Look for
bsonekavzm.exe
If found, right click on it and delete it
You may have to
Set Windows To Show Hidden Files and Folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Uncheck the Hide Extensions for known file types
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Thanks for the info on the screensaver
I would scan files you download from other parts of the net too with Norton's
-
Nuff said about the file sharing...it's coming off my puter!
I was surfing like a mad woman and my computer was flying from site to site like it's suppose to then to my horror
/ohmy.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':o\' /> a popup from Lycos:(
I'm off to follow your last set of instructions.....
-
Ok, I did what you said....
No bsonekavzm.exe file but there were two bsonekavzm dat files. I deleted those. Can I delete them from my wastebasket now?
-
Yes, leave them in the recycle bin for a bit
Everything seems fine, empty the recycle bin
Did you get any other popus yet, or just the one occurence
Do you have Internet Explorer's popup stopper enabled?
Can you show me one other log
Open Hijackthis>>Open Misc tools section>>Open Uninstall Manager
Click the SAVE LIST button
Save this list to your desktop then copy and paste the contents back here
-
Do you know what Symnet is and do I need it? It's in the following list.
I don't know where or how to work Internet Explorer's popup stopper but I have the Google tool bar and I use that popup blocker. Is Internet Explorer's better? I've had it for a couple of years and it seems to work pretty good.

I just want to check on something
I'll go through your Uninstall list later, I have to leave for a bit
Can you also go thru the list and let me know what else you don't recognize please
Many of the plugins installed seem to be related to Photoshop, is that true?
Symnet is part of Norton's, you can leave it alone
Can you do the following, because of the other problems you had
This is sometimes installed also, not seen in normal mode however
Sorry, I confused your log with another users, my bad
It wouldn't hurt to run this fix anyways, just to make sure it's not present
Download AproposFix from here:
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe (http://\"http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/aproposfix.exe\")
Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.
You must run this tool in Safe mode
So please reboot into safe mode
Double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.
Reboot back to Normal mode
Can you post a fresh hijackthis log
Also, Post The entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder
-
Is it ok to go ahead and uninstall LimeWire?
Yes the plugins are but I use them in PSP 7 and PSP 9 to make my graphics.

Aproposfix came back clean, that's good
Just one more enquiry
I use Ad-Aware, I also have SpySubtract (it came already on my computer)
You mentioned that before, did you purchase the product or is it a limited version?
Are you capable of keeping it right up to date
If not you may consider uninstalling it
You might be much happier with Ad-Aware and Spybot 1.4
The latter you don't have installed yet
-
It came with my computer and it's was a trial thing. I don't use it. Where do I find Spybot? Maybe a Google search?
Do you know what mailskinner is?
What about L&H? It has a file in it that says PHONE or PHONE ME in it. My kids had Yahoo messenger and I still find file leftovers.
I uninstalled LimeWire...how will I know if I got it completely off my system?
Thanks for any help you can give for these! I truely appreciate all you've done!

To be more specific about MailSkinner....it's in my Program files. It's a file of it's own and in it is a file called OESkinner.dll I'm new to Windows XP so maybe it's suppose to be there, just sounds like it could be a bad thing.
L&H file is in the Common Files in it's own file. Inside the L&H file are two files. One is called SHARED and has another file called PHONEME. Inside that file is a dat file called ENUPHON.dat
The second file in the L&H file is called Speech Engines. Inside this file are 4 files and a 1033 folder. Do you need me to go on???
Thanks
/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
-
Delete the Mailskinner folder! <--It's a leftover bad guy
L&H>>should be a legit speech recognition software
Download and Install Spybot 1.4 from
HERE (http://\"http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.html?part=104443&subj=dlpage&tag=button\")
or HERE (http://\"http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html\")
After installation--Click the UPDATE button on the left
SEARCH FOR UPDATES on the right
Check, and then download all updates
After update is complete
"Check for Problems"---When the Scan is complete
FIX all selected promblems in RED
RESTART the computer to finish any cleaning process
NOTE: If you get a badchecksum error when updating with Spybot
Search for updates again and try a different download location from the drop down menu
Post back and let me know if it finds anything
-
Ok it's done and Spybot says there are no threats on my computer...YEAH!!!
I just have one more question.....What do I do with the installed programs and files you wanted me to put on my desktop and can I delete all the previous logs I've sent to you? Should I keep all these programs installed on my comupter?
I uninstalled SpySubtractor.

I seen you mentioned you were removing entries set by yahoo
Let's clear up the following too
Do a "System scan only" with Hijackthis and put a check next to these entries:
1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t...ario&pf=desktop (http://\"http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t...ario&pf=desktop\")
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t...ario&pf=desktop (http://\"http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t...ario&pf=desktop\")
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/ (http://\"http://www.yahoo.com/\")
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t...ario&pf=desktop (http://\"http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t...ario&pf=desktop\")
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t...ario&pf=desktop (http://\"http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&t...ario&pf=desktop\")
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.intermute.com/hp_update/?220=7B...63346313331387D (http://\"http://www.intermute.com/hp_update/?220=7B...63346313331387D\")
After you have ticked the above entries, close All other open windows
Leave Hijackthis open and click FIX CHECKED
OK the prompt and exit Hijackthis
Reboot the computer
Back in Windows
access Internet Options via Control Panel
Under the Programs tab "Reset Web Settings"
Under the General tab---Reset home page
The tools I had you download
Go ahead and delete
C:\BFU <-this folder
Delete edgafix.vbs and fix.reg from your desktop
Optional for you too keep Windows CleanUp! and Ewido
But I would hold onto them
Use CleanUp! once a week and Ewido about once a month
Make sure you update it first
Keep the backups from Hijackthis for a week or so, after which time
If your still happy with the way everything is running
Access your add/remove programs and remove Hijackthis 1.99.1
Then manually delete C:\HJT <-this folder
Hold onto SpywareBlaster and keep it updated with the instructions I gave you earlier
Hold onto Ad-Aware and Spybot
Check for updates every couple of weeks and run scans
Addionally, with Spybot, which you should do now
Open it and click on Immunize>>OK>>Immunize at the top green cross
Do that after every update

/unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> You want me to delete all that Internet Explorer stuff???
-
There not malicious, the IE ones are just redirects set by HP
Won't hurt to fix them
-
/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' /> Ok, going to do it now.....
-
Okie Dokie...I did everything you said
/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
-
This has been a long thread Stormie
/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
your log looked good however
Nothing in the log now but some optionals that don't need running
If you would like to pursue disabling these let me know
Otherwise I'll lock this topic as your problems appear resolved
NOTE: you can go back and hide hidden files and folders again
I would leave Hide Extensions for known file types unchecked however
-
I'm sorry about the long thread. I'm new so don't quite know what to do about that. Maybe start another one next time? Sorry
/unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
As far as the problem, I'm grateful for your help. I would have never found all the problems. Thank you for your time!
I would like very much to stop what ever is running that doesn't need to be whenever you can is great with me. Thanks for the offer.
Stormie
/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
I'll go back through the threads to hide the files again. Thanks for the tip!
-
Don't be sorry about the long thread
I figured if it was this long now, why now keep it going
/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />
Just kidding
I'll be back on later, have to leave right now
I'll post back later

Hi again Stormie
Those optionals
I'll leave it up to you what you don't need running on startup
you can use msconfig to control some entries
I prefer to use this small tool
Don't disable something if it's needed>>Eg.. Your Anti-Virus
Codestuff's Starter (http://\"http://www.snapfiles.com/get/starter.html\")
UNZIP it to a folder of it's own
Eg...Open MyDocuments>>Right click an empty spot and left click NEW>>Folder
Name it something like "Starter"
Uncheck an item to disable on startup
Or look within a program first to disable on startup
Go to this link, http://castlecops.com/modules.php?name=StartupList (http://\"http://castlecops.com/modules.php?name=StartupList\")
Here's an example of ONLY the 04 entries of your hijackthis log I put into the Search field and the results I got
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
I entered into the Search field
realsched.exe
Here's the results
Application Scheduler installed along with RealOne_Player Once installed, it runs independently of RealOne Player. See here for more information, including how to disable it. Also see evntsvc and Realsched. Note that eventsvc.exe no longer appears to be in a newer version. To disable "tkbell.exe" in the new version (1) Start RealOne Player (2) Tools -> Preferences (3) Automatic services in the Categories pane (4) Uncheck all options and then OK
You will want to manually disable it from running on startup
Then have Starter fix that entry if still found
Concerning this entry
O4 - Global Startup: Compaq Connections.lnk = C:\Program Files\Compaq Connections\6750491\Program\Compaq Connections.exe
It is recommended to disable this on startup, unless you experience problems
Start, All Programs, PC Help & Tools, Compaq Connections
Please remember that if you deactivate the service, you will miss important support notices and usage information specifically for your PC model. You may reactivate the service any time by going to the same Start menu location.
I don't see a problem deactivating this, unless you deem it necessary
Do a little work and see what you require on startup
Look within the program first to see if it can be deactivated if it not necessary to be running on startup
or
Use Codestuff's starter to disable an entry, this way if you need it reenabled on startup you can use Starter
to recheck it again
Let me know how it goes

Good Morning:)
I downloaded Codestuff Starter (great little program, thanks) and unchecked my Winzip since I don't use it. I have another program to upzip things.
Also I brought up RealPlayer (which I never use either) and nothing was checked so I left it alone but did uncheck the box for this [TkBellExe] in Codestuff Starter. Was that the correct thing to do?
I'm sorry to keep bothering you but I've found a file in my Programs file that looks like a bad thing but before I delete it I want to know what you think. Like I said, it's in my Programs file (I found it there this morning) and it's a file called FunWebProducts and inside the file is another file called 2.bin which has an installer in it called F3EZSETP.DLL Seems like I've deleted something like this before but maybe not. When you have the time I'd like to know what you think of this. I know you're very busy and I'm not the only one with problems so just when you can. I'll keep checking back with you:)
I've passworded my computer so I'm the only one allowed on it now and I'm very carefully where I surf so maybe it was a leftover I just overlooked...I hope so!
Thanks for everything guestolo!

You actually looked like you had something associated with Popular screensavers
at one time installed, Ewido removed a registry entry related to it
Seem right?
Here's some info on it
Click HERE (http://\"http://smileycentral.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/smileycentral.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1292&p_created=1077935992&p_sid=oh3mniYh&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NTEmcF9wcm9kcz02OCZwX2NhdHM9JnBfcHY9MS42OCZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PVRyb3VibGVzaG9vdGluZyBGQVE*&p_li=&p_topview=1\")
I don't see it installed anymore, if that's correct go ahead and delete the FunWebProducts folder
It wouldn't be something I would want installed
-
Yep, that's exactly where it's from. I've deleted it. Thanks for everything! Awesome forum you guys have here and I sure appreciate it!
